I know of no VA DGIF regulation that limits the number of firearms in your possession while hunting.
However, you need to have the correct ammunition for the seasons/game that are open at the time. i.e. having fine shot when small game is closed and only deer is open would be a problem.
What about two muzzleloaders for a quick followup shot? Like jdonovan, I've never seen a regulation against it, and both certainly must be legal for the season & county you are hunting in.
I was always taught/told you could only possess one firearm. Reason I wonder is bc there is nothing in the regs and I know of some folks who hunt in a shotgun county but take their muzzle loader for longer shots along with their shotgun. Emailed dgif to get their perspective. Thanks!

Per my hunter education instructor and TWO game wardens, the answer to your particular question is NO. If you have a concealed carry permit, you are allowed to have a concealed pistol with you, but no to two long guns.

You didn't happen to get a cite for the reg that prohibits this did you? Just curious as I cannot find one.

As far as I know, that's just their opinion and there is no regulation which prohibits what you are asking. It would be useful only under certain circumstances and in general I'd think it's more of a PITA than it's worth.

This same question was asked last year. Read the book you get with the hunting license, it's spelled out!

If you aren't part of the solution, then you obviously weren't properly dissolved.
