Figured I'd give it one more shot...

I've been posting here for a while now with long interruptions because of craziness in my life with moving. I've now settled at my new place in Herndon and I'd like to meet some 2A friendlies around here. I haven't seen much response here compared to the site I was using in PA, but, I figured I'd give it one more try.
I'm an OC fan so I'd be happy to go to one of those meets (been to plenty in PA). I'm also fine with meeting up for a shoot or just a random get together. My wife, kids, and myself are lonely in this D.C. spill-over, anti-gun world of NOVA. I'd love to meet some new people. Let me know if anybody wants to do something. I was extremely active in PA and I'd like to continue that down here. Hope to talk to you soon.

Do you have a favorite range ? I prefer the NRA in Fairfax, but even though Clarke Brother's in Warrenton is a bit of a drive they are OK. Cresap Rifle club in Frederick, MD has 100 yard targets and cheap range fees (really its a donation and you can shoot for HOURS, just pay for the targets). Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly (not very friendly there) Only place I have not shot at is Silver Eagle in Ashnburn, they are more expensive and I heard they support anti-gun politicians - go figure.
Anyway, I'm in Reston so next time you want to go shooting just let me know where and I'll see if I can make it. Name's Dale and I post in all sorts of gun forums as *NOVA*, NOVA or N0VA
Handguns, shotguns AR-15, whatever.

Silver Eagle is a nice range. I believe most Northern Virginians are pretty pro-2A; either that, or I just pick to hang out with the right people or am very good at explaining my POV.

How common is OC to see in PA?

Sharpshooters in Lorton - we did a shoot and greet there once. Was a pretty good experience.
All it boils down to is someone setting up a date and time for any shoot and greet that you all want to do. We have members all over Virginia, so there are a lot of opportunities to meet and greet in any area.
So, set a date, a time and a location and see what kind of interest you pick up.

Hey I still have 4 guest passes to sharpshooters left, so we could do that again sometime soon if folks want we can try for a meet at sharpshooters. I will be out this weekend as I am heading to Kentucky for the Family reuion, but when I get back we can try it out.
I got a Ruger Blackhwak .357 mag my Dad gave me that I am just dying to try out.
Sharpshooters is pistol caliber only though.

Oh and another note I am a big OC fan as well. I am sure now that I have this BlackHawk it will be strapped down quite a bit. Going to try and get back into the quick draw again.

Nova, as far as a favorite range, I don't have one down here. Only been working/living in the area for 3 months:). As far as going to Fredneck, no thanks. Can't carry on the way there and I try to stay out of the PRMD as much as possible. I grew up in MD but moved to PA when I got married. That's when I started to learn about freedom. MD had me fooled for 18 years and I kinda have a bad taste in my mouth for that state now. (Sorry for the rant)
Jake, OC is about as common as you would think. I posted on PAFOA for a long time and OCers were referred to as "unicorns":). I saw a couple where I lived (Littlestown PA), but it wasn't extremely common. I OCed everywhere I went normally, but I didn't see a gun on someone else's hip on a regular basis.
Back to post in a bit... Dinner time...

What say you, MrFired Up?
Looks like you've got some folks some on this thread "Fired Up" and ready to send some lead down range.
I've already told my better half I'm keeping the first weekend in October open for this. Never been to the range in Lorton, but hey, if someone's got some wide open land not too far out in the boonies wouldn't it be great to do some plinking totally outdoors with no restrictions?
I've got this mono-pod I made out of a shower curtain rod and wrapped in camo tape I'm just dying to try out but its not something you take to a range, you know? I'm thinking to use it to steady my Mossy when its got the 24" rifled slug barrel on it. My theory is if I have the mono pod leaning slightly forward instead of perpendicular to the ground that the spring inside the rod will help reduce recoil. Just want to prove in the field this system can result in a good sabot slug shot on a deer at say, 150 yards?

I am up for the first weekend in Oct as well Saturday or Sunday is fine with me.
I agree that finding a field would be great as I want to check the sieghts on my deer rifle again.
if not Sharpshooters or BRA would work for me.

All -
Every Sunday morning at 0930 there is an OC breakfast at:
Joe's cafe
45665 W Church Rd, Sterling, VA 20164
Sterling, VA
If you play the FaceBook game, hunt down a guy named Ed Levine. He "runs" OC events all over the Herndon/Sterling/Ashburn/Leesburg area.

Sorry about last night. After dinner the kids were crazy and by the time I had a chance to get back on I was too whipped to think.
NOVA, I have a knack for getting people "fired up":). I'm good to go for the first weekend of October. It'd be nice to meet some new friends and throw some lead at targets. Being a "noob" here, I'd prefer to join in on someone else's party than start one of my own just yet. I have a .35 cal lever action marlin I could make people fall in love with...
KaosDad, thanks for the info. I'm gonna look him up. That place is not far from me at all. I'm on Church road quite often.
So, since I don't know about the nova area yet, could someone get a new thread started for something here and then post a link to the new thread here? Don't mean to be pushy. I just put a few things together in PA and I'd like to start doing it here too. Problem is, I don't know where to go and stuff. I'll work harder soon:).
Thanks for all the response so far

I think you'll find more gun owners once you start talking to people and get conversations going that direction.
The street I lived on before the divorce had gun owners in eight of the ten closest houses. This area is highly political so people carry themselves in certain ways they don't even realize. Slightly steer a conversation towards firearms and you may be surprised.
Gun ownership is a dirty little secret for many in this area..
