The March For Liberty Coalition 7/4/09
Originally posted by Bobtail1911 in response to the "Open letter to our country's leadership" thread. Seems this should have it's own discussion thread (and calendar entry), so here it is.
From: The March For Liberty Coalition
"Home of the Washington D.C. Tea Party!"
We are being joined by Rick Santelli's Tea Party Movement!
Our Mission
Our intent is to restore the governing of our nation to its constitutional roots. We will use any peaceful means necessary to ensure the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness that our founding fathers designed for us, the American people, to enjoy.
About US
We are an independent coalition of like minded-citizens whose only goal is to enforce the Constitution as the law of the land. We will report on elected officials who support this cause, and those who do not. We will also promote candidates from any party affiliation who best suit this cause and can effectively win elections. Limited government, fiscal responsibility and individual liberties are top priorities for any candidate that we may endorse.
July 4th, 2009
"No taxation without representation" began as a slogan in the period 1763–1776 that summarized a primary grievance of the British colonists in the Thirteen Colonies. The people in America were being asked to pay the government without any say in how that government would be run. Sound familiar? It has been a long time since the government of the United States represented it's people but that hasn't stopped them from increasing our taxes and undermining our "lives", our "liberties", and our ability to "pursue happiness". As Thomas Jefferson stated, when government becomes "destructive", it becomes our "right" and our "duty" to remove such government and create a new one.
That is our purpose. We must either "alter" the government or "abolish it", as Jefferson declared. There is nothing wrong with the framework our nation was built on. Our Constitution is a divinely-inspired, miraculous document designed to protect us from tyranny and despotism. To abolish such a framework would be to abolish any chance for liberty to flourish. It is our intention to "alter" our government by restoring it to it's constitutional roots.
To this end we have formed the March for Liberty Coalition. To begin our efforts to restore our republic we will be sponsoring a demonstration in Washington D.C. on July 4th, 2009 scheduled for 10:00 am in the Upper Senate Park adjacent to the Capitol Building north of Constitution Avenue. Please make an effort to join us and tell others about this event.
We will be allowed to demonstrate, not march. There will be too much traffic on that day to take up roadways or sidewalks in an organized march. We can all "walk" down to the event in one group as long as we do not hinder traffic and as long as we raise NO banners and NO signs until we get there.
Here is the link to the Capitol Police map
The single blue dot marks the location (Not the double dot).
Our reservation is for 9:30 am until 2:30 pm. There are a few rules as to what we can do there but nothing unreasonable.
*We will meet at McPherson Square, K street NW and Vermont Ave NW at ~8:45 am for pre-rally briefing and then our leg-stretching 10 block walk to the Upper Senate Park on the north side of the U.S. Capitol*

I might. But I think you need to chill out a little. We elected our government officials. This is not a dictatorship. I agree they need to be reminded that they work for us. Aggressivley threatening them is overkill and starting a war in our country is not necessary. I think our voices are more effective when raised with sincerety and reason (and determination to be heard) than raised with anger. Anger and threats just turn people off.

Sweetpea - I agree with you, but...We've raised our voices to the leadership in DC and they have failed to listen. They continue with their agenda and not ours. We've asked them politely to stop the unprecedented spending, taxing, and assault on our Constitutional rights. They have thus far failed to hear our voices and ignore the pleas of we the people. If we dont speak loudly now it may be too late. If not us, who - if not now, when?Sweetpea wrote:I might. But I think you need to chill out a little. We elected our government officials. Having said that, I don't recall bobtail threatening anyone. He has only challenged us to march with him. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
BTW, you are correct that we do not live in an outright dictatorship, but...if our leaders blindly ignore us and continue to do as they please then I ask you what that is. To me, it is most certainly a form a passive dictatorship. They smile politely and nod, then go about their own little agendas tearing our country down one bit at a time. Its got to stop and only we the people speaking loudly and clearly can do that.
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

I think it was threatening to say "You better hope all you lose is an election."
I totally agree with you that we need to be louder and with more people standing up. I agree with everything you said. And all you have to do is to look at the change the NRA has effected to see it working.

Mea culpa. I missed that one. Yes that is threatening. I wouldn't say or support that. My other comments stand though.Sweetpea wrote:I think it was threatening to say "You better hope all you lose is an election."

Re: The March For Liberty Coalition 7/4/09
I am not threatening my opposition to the radical Democrat Party Control of our Federal Government, I am promising it. Congress, the House of Reps to be exact, write all appropriation laws. That means spending to those OBAMA voters out there. The Senate has to go along with it. And the President has to sign it. Before the 17th amendment to the Constitution the Senate was appointed by their respective State Elected Bodies and before the 16th Amendment, which passed in 1913 along with the 17th, all monies to be spent by the Federal government, outside of tariffs and some fees, were apportioned out by the states according to population, that means the money had to come from the States for most or all Federal Spending. This is one reason why we need a census. The income tax is a result of the 16th amendment. The States are off the hook. The Federal Reserve Act also came at this time.
The result of the above was a rolling snowball down hill. Since the States were off the hook for Federal spending and the Senate had no real connection to their respective States in regards to spending money, they spent like drunken sailors until we find ourselves with a bunch of criminals in the Congress of the United States. Let the average citizen write bad check after bad check and we would all be in jail. It is time "We the People" put just such a scare into the current Congress.
In fact I would love to see a third party run on this very proposal: "We will put the past House of Representatives in jail for misappropriation of funds. Failing that we will work to cut off all benefits to all retired elected officials and cut the salaries of all Federal elected or appointed employees by 80 percent. Until the government gets out of this hole that they have spent us into.
Now let me tell you how I really feel Sweetpea, We are almost at the point where talking about this will be over. We are not there yet, but getting closer. Even so there will always be those who will not do anything about a radical minority taking over in a Socialist revolution.
History is repeating itself. The Communists in Russia called themselves Bolsheviks, which means "the majority" in Russian. They never were the majority but it works for propaganda purposes. The Democrats call themselves "Progressives", that hated word "liberal" had to go. We turned Liberal against them.
Who would be against being "Progressive?" Puppy dogs and flowers.... Total BS. America is asleep at the switch. Are you asleep?
Do they even teach this stuff in schools today? I'm out of breath and time.
Off my soap box, back to cleaning my pistol. Just came back from the range and my 1911 goes bang every time its asked to.
Mark

Mark - I'm hoping to join you at the march. I will leave Doritos behind, but will have water and snacks. Now, are you going to send a note to our elected reps - congressman, senators, and governor? I sent Janet Contreras' letter with this note to them and others. I'm curious to see what they come back with:
-------------------------------------
I’d like to share a letter with you that Janet Contreras of Arizona recently sent her representatives. You may have read it by now. If not, I urge you to read it and understand that it also reflects my current sentiments. Please understand that I am not accusing you of anything. What I am asking is that you stand up now and speak out loudly in support or our Constitution and rights (all of them) and ensure that they are upheld. The issues of the day no longer matter to me. In my opinion they are created to canvass votes and evolve from election to election. What matters to me most right now is that our Constitution and rights therein are honored and maintained. If you fail to do that job I and many others will work vigorously to see that you do not serve another term. A promise from you means nothing. I expect to see action now to protect and defend our Constitution and ensure legislative actions adhere accordingly. I urge you to speak out today and begin fighting to restore America to the course set by our Founders within the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Bah - Fundraising emails. There should be a political Can Spam act.
Dear Mr. Politician - just answer the question, please. Leave the rest of the fund raising and "Support everything else that Mr Politician wants" and answer my single, solitary question and then leave me alone! This is about ME, not about YOU!

Re: The March For Liberty Coalition 7/4/09
Bobtail/Zephyp - Thank you for taking the time to spell out the situation. At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot (but to illustrate that I have a lot to learn) I have only just recently been reminded of the difference between a democracy and a republic. Huge epiphany there.
History was never an interest of mine, until I married a sailor. He brought me into this world of defending our rights and enjoying the shooting sports. And now that we are split, I am still trying to learn on my own. I am not asleep but it's so frightening to me to believe you when you say it's almost past the point of talking about it. There are so many people who (like I was before I got married) are just ignorant about our rights in general and firearms specifically. And they are afraid because of it. I want to educate them. I'm nervous about revealing my beliefs (as a lone woman who is the main protector of my family) but I hope it will help inform the ignorant and allay their fears. Is that just wishful thinking?

Re: The March For Liberty Coalition 7/4/09
Sweetpea - we do indeed live in a republic. Many people will tell you that our country is a great example of democracy. Not so - we are too many. Some scholars affectionately call democracy "mobocracy" if you discern the difference. I don't agree with bobtail that we are beyond talking. IMO we are headed that way but not there yet. In the 30+ years that I've been a voter I've been Republican, Democrat, and Independent. I'm getting ready to make the move to the Constitutional Party. You can google for more info. I do think we are beyond looking at the issues of the day with respect to our elected leaders. IMO the primary thing that matters now is that the Constitution and Bill of Rights are upheld in legislative actions and for citizens. When I talk about Constitutional rights I speak beyond those that we normally think of like 1st and 2nd Amendments. I'm also concerned about un-Constitutional acts being perpetrated by the current elected officials: giving more power to the Federal Reserve is a good example. Congress abdicated their Constitutional authority wrt money and gave it to the Fed which is a non-government entity (privately held). To get more info I recommend you read the Constitution and think about current legislative acts like TARP and taking control of GM and Chrysler. Also read the Bill of Rights and think of the totality of those rights. Read the Federalist Papers. Thomas Jefferson is also a great source. I particularly like his views on the press. Vastly different than how the media conducts themselves today. Also, consider why our Founders put the 2nd Amendment in place. Hint: not to defend you and your family from criminals threatening bodily harm. Hope this isnt too much. I'd be more than happy to discuss in depth with you. We're not that far away from each other.

Re: The March For Liberty Coalition 7/4/09
The key to saving our Republic IMO is to return power to the States. Mind you, that with an income tax the Feds no longer need the States for their allowance. Big Mistake. This can only be rectified by repealing the 16th and 17th amendments just like we repealed prohibition. It can be done and with the national concern about this runaway deficit we may be on the verge of doing it.
So long as the original checks and balances are restored, there is still hope for our Republic. But all Americans must fight for it or it will not happen. The fight begins by teaching your children the facts. The union controlled schools will not do this. The fight continues by bringing common sense examples to your peers in conversation so that they will understand the necessity for action and not call you a nut. I know! And finally, we must live through our example. All who want to go on this march with me can pm me. Bring a sign and water but no backpacks or other things that local gendarmes will tell you to remove from the Mall or Capitol hill.
Z man, if you read above, I said: "Now let me tell you how I really feel Sweetpea, We are almost at the point where talking about this will be over. We are not there yet,..." So quote me accurately.
