Great minds think alike Henry. I was thinking a hat like that might be a good addition. If you cant make the picnic I'll come down your way and pick it up if you let me borrow it. I've also got some .223 brass youre welcome to. Not much but I'm not going to load it. Going to stick to pistol for the time being.Vahunter wrote:Hey DK if you do that then you need to wear my hat. Re: CC in Fairfax County Parks
Don't blame the sheep for their ignorance of the Confederate flag, it's history is just not something that was taught to the masses. Not to mention there were some who flew it while engaging in dishonorable actions to include but not limited to racist activity. The flags true meaning may indeed be an honorable one but some who fly it tarnish that meaning.

Indeed and IMO its similar minded people who burn the American flag as an expression of free speech just because they can. We should never be afraid to display nor discriminated against because of our heritage. After all, this is still America - home of the free because of the brave.

Funny thing is, the flag everyone calls the "battle flag" is actually the Naval Jack!

Interesting article. It looks like the Navy jack (1863-1865) and the Confederate flag (article says "a 20th century combination of the Battle Flag's colors with the Second Navy Jack's design") are identical.

Re: CC in Fairfax County Parks
Saw that, it's not quite accurate but it does at least straighten out a lot of the misconceptions that many have about the flag. In short, the battle flag was square with St. Andrews cross on a red field where the Naval Jack was the same basic design but rectangular in shape.

I didnt notice that. Is there a significance in the geometry - square versus rectangle?

I think the geometry of a flag is a navy thing. Maybe everyone in the Navy is a square?

You'll probably have to wait a few hours for an answer to that one. My guess is that Rick has gone to bed for the night. On the other hand it might make sense for Army guys to have a square flag. Something long really flaps in the breeze as you charge up a hill with a rebel yell. Could slow you down a little.Moccasin wrote:I think the geometry of a flag is a navy thing. Herohog should be able to provide a definitive answer concerning a Navy flag. As for Army guys, you are absolutely correct that something long flaps in the breeze when charging up a hill.
Re: CC in Fairfax County Parks
As to why the Naval Jack is rectangle and the battle flag square, I have no idea. The SCV link had 3 references at the end of the article for more information.

DK I used to have one of these when I rode at Accotink, and other places. You could actually draw while riding. Fit a 380 pretty nicely. There are many types, and sizes available as well.zephyp wrote:Thanks, Bing. I'll do that. Btw, how do you carry on a bike? I use an IWB and regular compression shorts, but sweat like crazy. No sense carrying in a backpack where you cant easily get to it. You know of any decent frame packs other than one across the handlebars? I'm not a big fan of those.Jericho01 wrote:I've CC'd there before when biking. Go to VCDL website to get more info about CCing in County/State parks.

I'll tell you what, I dont have a big Dixie flag but if someone brings one to the picnic I just might ask to borrow it for a short while...Moccasin wrote:Yeah, what Riana said DK. ^^^
But to my knowledge... a Vulcan will not fit.

Thanks, Bruce. I've seen those and thought about getting one. I try to minimize bags and only carry one under the saddle and a very small one on the top bar for cell phone and keys.
That looks like it might work. I like to do 30-50 milers and favor bibs. Hard to do a decent CC with those and I sweat like crazy anyway. That bag looks like you have pretty easy access.

Here's how I CC while biking in FFX County Parks. (see photos) I can detach the bag from the handlebar and wear it around my waist. I bought the bag at REI Outdoor store.

Re: CC in Fairfax County Parks
I've got a handlebar bag but hate it. Introduces too much drag and I like to do alot of downhills. Have some favorites in Mason Neck where I can hit 38-39 mph on a good day. My goal is to break 40 but havent quite made it yet.
I think I'll go with the bar bag. I've seen those before and they look pretty handy. Unfortunately most of the bags available are for handlebar or over the rear tire. I've got one of those too and use it sometimes if we do picnics.
