[C'ville] My first time carrying concealed...

Post by mk4 »

So... after today's range trip to function test my new Sig (http://vagunforum.net/post95788.html#p95788), I strapped it on IWB with just an untucked polo for cover and headed back from Hite Hollow to Richmond. Pretty amazing how much more attentive I was to the speed limit.

Anyway, once back in town, I did a bunch of errands (Walmart, Lowes, Food Lion), got gas and snacks (Shell) and had dinner at a friend's restaurant near the downtown mall area. I must admit that I did feel "beginner's" self-consciousness, but I took the advice I've read here and on other forums and and didn't fiddle with my firearm. I must have done ok, 'cuz I didn't get one strange look anywhere I went.

I know I've got a ways to go and more to learn, but I took my first step today. :)

Congrats on carrying! Can't wait until the county gets my permit approved, so I can carry mine concealed. You want some funny looks? Try carrying in Cville when you're not dressed head-to-toe like a cop. :hysterical:

Submitted my app on 15 AUG 2011. Still waiting, which I suppose is to be expected. They love to take their time, while making law-abiding citizens wait.

I don't hit Cville often but no one ever seems to even look at me twice when I pass through there open carrying.

Don't worry about people looking at you strangely, carry a voice recorder, and remember since you can legally openly carry a gun if it is noticed by anyone you are not doing anything wrong. You may want to hit the OCDO website and check out the Virginia forum. Even though it is an open carry website, many of the experiences are the same and they even have a Cville area.

Fairfax County took every day of the 45 days they're allowed by law. And I think I only got it that fast because when I put in my paperwork, I asked the clerk what to do if the 45 days came and went with no permit. She said something like, "Oh, don't worry about that, they usually get them out within 55 or 60 days" I reminded her that state law allowed them 45 days.

I've read a few times that if 45 days goes by, you can go back to the County clerk and get a stamped copy of your application and use that as your CHP until they either send your card or give you a reason for denying you.

Did you know there is a Centreville and a Centerville in Virginia? Good luck with the permit, they get a LOT of applications.

Jim,
having lived in the charlottesville area for a number of years now, i've heard the town referred to a c'ville over and over, hence my contraction in the thread subject line. do centerville folks also shorten the town name to c'ville?

If they do, they need to be smacked. The only "C'ville" in Virginia is Charlottesville.
