Background check 2 days and waiting
Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
I just called VSP directly and found out the issue. I then turned around and called WV State Police and they do not show the info that VSP has on their report. VSP tells me that they will not take 5 minutes to call as there are others in line ahead of me. It took me 5 minutes to get this cleared, but VSP has been working on it for over a week and more to come.

Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
the ffl probably could transfer the firearm to you now and be compliant with the law.
from what i've heard (take it fwiw), though, the vsp advises/requests that the ffl wait until the process is complete, regardless of the statute. i'd guess most ffls comply with the vsp or has their own policy, erring on the conservative/waiting side. you could ask the ffl to complete the sale and see what they say. at worst they'll say "no" and wait for the definitive response from the vsp.
disclaimer: ianal.

Looks like you can get it, but the staties do discourage dealers from completing the transfer without a proceed, and many (most) dealers won't risk it.

So in effect? Budget cuts= Waiting Periods...
Someone needs to contact their legislators... because THAT is WRONG!
HEY! The VCDL checked, and offered the VSP volunteers who were bonded, and licensed thru their employers as background check operators, and they REFUSED!
Which is ridiculous! If you have people who are qualified, and insured, to do the job for FREE!?!? Turning them down seems petty, and triffling.

Legal purchase takes weeks, but a criminal can buy a gun in minutes. What is wrong with this picture?

Got the approval Monday and picked my gun up.

I hope you have joined VCDL. Stuff like this will happen if we aren't vigilant. VCDL Lobby Day is on MLK Day, when hundreds of members show up to Richmond and lobby legislators about stuff like this.

Re: Background check 2 days and waiting
Reminds me of Last Turkey hunting season here in AZ. Guy comes by to pick up his NEW shotgun at 7PM on the way up hunting. I do the paperwork and call it in it comes back DELAY!!! Two other PISTOLS, no delay previously. SO, NO GUN FOR HIM--***** OFF
5 days later no reply yet from FBI. Talked to a WALMART guy, They NEVER do a background ck after 6PM because they GET A DELAY MOST OF THE TIME!!!!!!!!!, if they do it EARLIER THEY GO THROUGH, now that is a new one but I kind of think it might have some truthfullness to it.

Sounds like maybe there is something to that -- I may need to experiment more to find out. Of course, that means purchasing enough guns to form a statistically significant sample.OLDGUN64 wrote:Reminds me of Last Turkey hunting season here in AZ.
