rest at: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/memb ... 41960.htmlA few lawmakers have suggested in recent months that despite a $174,000 annual salary, generous health care and pensions, and perks for things like travel and mail, being one of the elite 435 ain't always what it's cracked up to be. And when you calculate the hours they put in, the pay isn't stellar either, they say.
The Florida Capital News reported last week on a speech Steve Southerland, a Republican representative, gave to a retirement community in Tallahassee in which he complained about some of the parts of his new job:
"He said his $174,000 salary is not so much, considering the hours a member of the House puts in, and that he had to sever ties with his family business in Panama City. Southerland also said there are no instant pensions or free health insurance, as some of his constituents often ask him about in Congress.
"'And by the way, did I mention? They're shooting at us. There is law-enforcement security in this room right now, and why is that?" Southerland told about 125 people in an auditorium at the Westminster Oaks retirement community. "If you think this job pays too much, with those kinds of risks and cutting me off from my family business, I'll just tell you: This job don't mean that much to me. I had a good life in Panama City.'
"...He added that 'if you took the hours that I work and divided it into my pay,' the $174,000 salary would not seem so high."

Boo hoo hoo. A river of tears over this one...if ya dont like the job no body forced u to take it. Go back to whatever it was that you were doing.
Being an elected official isnt a job. Its more and requires sacrifice. And, it was never intended to be full time. If these twits werent so hung up in being nannies it would make every one's life including theirs much easier....

No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Knock their pay down to $1,000 a month. I certainly don't see them doing anything that requires a salary greater than $12,000 a year. As Zephyp pointed out, it isn't supposed to be a full time job, so no need for any kind of "benefit" program. And it isn't something to "retire" from, so scratch the retirement plan, too. $12,000 a year; no more than that.

Cincinatus never required a salary, he simply did his duty as "Caesar", then went back to his olives, lemons, and wheat in the country.
Pardon my language, but F"CK THEM! I hate the politicians at just about every level in this country, and I'm starting to hate the sheeple that vote them in, over, and over, and over again.
It's an underlining anger towards people being unable to recognized good sense, and logic.
Never mind. (shrugs) Doesn't matter, because most don't care.

Dude you volunteered for this job. You campaigned to get it. If you don't want it go home.

Considering the starting pay (less than 2 years of service) for a General in the United States Army is $114,368.40 what's HIS complaint?

The federal payroll has skyrocketed - especially in the past couple of years and yet those serving in the armed forces live on poverty-level wages. Shameful.
