Firearms Training in Northern VA
Firearms Training in Northern VA
I have a friend that is looking for a firearms training course near her home. She lives in Sterling and would prefer it to be less then 1 hour away. I have been able to teach her a lot but she wants to take a formal class. The classes I know of are farther away and probably a little more in your face then she would like. So I am wondering if you guys know of where or anyone in the area that gives decent courses ?
Thanks for any help you can give. If it were up to me I would take her to a Pat Goodale course be she says no

Moved topic to Northern Virginia forum.
We have some good sponsors here - have you checked any of them to see where they are? I don't remember off-hand if any of them are near Sterling or not (other than Sterling Arsenal - that great bunch of folks who are sponsoring our AR-15 giveaway!)

We would be happy to have her take our training classes. Sounds like she would enjoy our Defensive Handgun I course -

I'll be in Chantilly to do our Basic Firearms Safety class at the Nation's Gun Show on October 8 & 9, 2011, and then again on November 19 & 20, 2011.
Other than that, I don't have anything on the calendar in NoVa for the rest of the year, unless someone requests a special class and we can fit it in.

Personnaly I have not trained there - only visited once. Just figured I'd add this option to the thread, no offense to the previous posters.
They are located in Ashburn, so depending on what part of Sterling you live in, not too far up the road.

Hmm, Silver Eagle has made campaign donations to candidates that do not support gun rights. I will not be spending any money with them.

Honestly did not know that. Like I said I only visited once and did not spend a dime there. Their range fees are too high for me anyway. So you have just clued me in on another reason not to go there. Thanks.hatchetman wrote:Hmm, Silver Eagle has made campaign donations to candidates that do not support gun rights. Re: Firearms Training in Northern VA
I got handgun lessons from a. guy through Blue Ridge Arsenal. blue ridge is basically at where 50 meets 28 -the catch being he's currently laid up with a back injury and I can't speak about how any of the other instructors their are, but he is very very good (and an active member of local law enforcement) -maybe to start suggest to her to try their introduction to handgun class-for $125 it covers the basics and ends with an hour of range time where they put out about ten guns for people to try and get a feel for (it is how i learned I liked glock) -catch with that is its a classroom setting so it won't be individualized (though they do try to give everyone a little one on one)

err he may no longer be active-perhaps I misunderstood-he's not a staffer at blue ridge-he was being let to use it there as a courtesy

That's more likely of a scenario.Riposite wrote:err he may no longer be active-perhaps I misunderstood-he's not a staffer at blue ridge-he was being let to use it there as a courtesy
I'm sure that an active LEO would not be allowed to provide firearms training to civilians, for liability reasons.

The class is about 4 hours of classroom, followed by a trip over to Blue Ridge Arsenal for live fire.jrswanson1 wrote:Is this a live fire class or class work only? Thanks.Riana wrote:I am currently running a Basic Handgun course at Nova Firearms a couple times a month. Next class is January 22nd.

We had a positive experience with the folks at http://www.helpmeshoot.com. I believe they run sessions in many locations. We had a private session that was administered at the NRA range. Very professional, very thorough, and helped with handgun fundamentals during the live fire portion.
