Firearms Serial Numbers

Post by kjack »

Anyone else out there have a "thing" (fetish/obsesession) about serial numbers?

In theory, every (modern) firearm is "custom" because the # is uniue, but I don't think anyone considers that very special. However, I sometimes go out of my way to pick up "special" numbers.

-My Kimber Classic and AR15 lower receiver (discussed in my "Road to Perdition" post) both have numbers ending in "00". [I could have got the Kimber "XXXXX01" as well, but I was cash-poor.]
-My Model 88 Winchester from 1955 only has 4 digits.
-The T/C Icon I bought for my son for graduation has # 1991
-I had, and traded, a Marlin 336 with the last 3 digits "336"

Anyhow-, without a true custom gun budget, I will continue to look for production guns with something a little bit special.

I don't know any of my serial numbers. I do look at serial numbers on my dollar bills - does that count? :)

I've used the number "208" for years. Everything from race cars to online sn's.

I accidently bought a silencer with the serial number 208 but did not realize it until a month later.

I've got 3 Browning Gold 10-gauge shotguns with consecutive serial numbers, and at least one (and probably several) limited run commemorative gun numbered "x out of xx" (39 out of 500 in this one case) with a serial number that matches their sequence number, but other than that, I record them and forget them.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.
