I hope that Irene wasn't too tough on my fellow Virginians in this forum. I recently learned about gun bashes. They're annual or semi-annual events that fire departments hold as fund raisers that feature food and drink, as well as regular drawings throughout the day (typically 15 minutes) where firearms, outdoor equipment such as ATVs, and cash are given away.
I went with my father to my first gun bash on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. It was a great time. Based on my Google searches, it appears that gun bashes are common in Maryland and Pennsylvania, but they don't appear to be very popular in Virginia. Are there indeed gun bashes in the area that I'm overlooking? Does anyone know why they don't appear to be as common in Virginia? Does anyone have any favorite gun bashes in Virginia?
Even a search on "gun bash" in this forum didn't yield any results. I'm curious.

Hi Paul,
Never heard of them and I just moved from Maryland's eastern shore. Whereabouts did you go to one?

Sounds like a good time. I must check into these bashes you speak of.
Re: Gun Bashes
I went to the Showell gun bash with my father in the spring. It's near Ocean City. A $45 ticket bought unlimited food and drink all day and an entry in every drawing. It was a heck of a lot of fun--and a great father/son bonding experience. The next Showell gun bash is October 1st. Check out http://showellvfd.com.
There's one in Parsonsburg on Septeber 10th. The North Beach Fire Department in Calvert County is having one on October 1st (http://www.northbeachfire.com/gun-bash.php).
The Cumberland gun bash (Western Maryland) was just held on August 6th. Go to this link (http://www.iafflocal1715.com/index.cfm? ... n27s20Bash) and check out the list of prizes.
I bought a $20 ticket to one (through my father) in the early spring and won a $250 cash prize. I forget which one that was, but it made me a believer!
It still mystifies me that you see these in Maryland (mainly the Eastern Shore and Western Maryland), but not really in Virginia. Just Google "gun bashes in Maryland" and a lot come up.

We had a gun bash at Tasley VFC on the Eastern Shore of VA. two years in a row. While we did alright the first year we lost money the next. Don't know if we will try again in the future.
Yes I carry a Bible and a Gun, your point.
