LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO SHOOT?

The Northern Virginia Gun Club (NVGC) will have its annual Club Picnic / Swap Meet / Bring-A-Friend(s) Day on Saturday, September 10, 2011, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Members who have friends, neighbors, family, or coworkers who are looking for a place to shoot should have them come by and meet other shooters, sight in their rifles, or just get a chance to shoot and have lunch on us. The Rifle/Pistol, Skeet/Trap, and Archery ranges will be open for prospective members to use, and membership info packets will be available. (Per club policy, any prospective member must be sponsored by a current club member). So bring your guns and/or bows and come hungry!

To get to the club in King George County:

From Virginia:
*Take I-95 toward Fredericksburg.
*Get off at Bus. Rt. 17 East Falmouth, (exit 133A going south, and 133 going North).
*Go across Rt. 1 at light (Rt. 17 turns right at Us Rt. 1).
*You are now on Rt. 212 South. Continue straight to Rt. 218 East at light.
*The range is now about 12 miles away on Rt. 218.
*Go past Rt. 696.
*When you go past Rt. 609, the range will be 2.4 miles on the right.
*The signs and the gate are on the right. The signs will say “NVGC,” “8486,” and “Open House.” The road entrance is blacktop.
*If you get to Rt. 610, you went too far.

From Maryland:
*Take 301 south to the Potomac River Bridge.
*Turn right on Rt. 218.
*The range is about 7.2 miles on the left.
*The signs and the gate are on the left.
* The signs will say “NVGC,” “8486,” and “Open House.” The road entrance is blacktop.
*If you get to Rt. 642, you went too far.

I look forward to visiting for the open house tommorow. That is assuming I can find a route from Colonial Beach area. A lot of roads in the area are simply now gone due to the flooding. 3 lake dams gave away just in my neighborhood of Placid Bay.

Sounds like a nice place.
Im looking for a place to shoot too.
The link did say to bring a friend, and that you need sponsorship to join.
so I assume that being a VGOF member is the basis for the invite to visit?

I understand this to be an event open to the public - no sponsor or invite needed to shoot today. While there, meet the members, evaluate and use the facilities, and then if you want to join you'll need a sponsor - talk to Rick, allingeneral, more about that.

Dawg gone it. Sitting in line to get my car inspected here in Woodbring and just saw this. I'm next, but even if I took off now to grab my guns and Trigger we wouldn't get there in time. Hope to see it in time next go round.

Seems like there was a pretty good turn-out. I'm glad to hear it. Met one guy from VGOF there who is mailing his application to NVGC on Monday.

I really need to buy some VGOF hats or some new shirts so that we stand out in a crowd. :first:

I am working on getting my rifle (long, LONG overdue) and will definitely be checking this club out in the near future.

In the meantime, does anyone have some photos to share? Are the pistol shooters active out there and what kind of firing line(s) are we talking about?

I guess the action picked up after 12:30! I was there from 11-1230 on the rifle range... I didn't mind wading out to the targets, but it would have been nice to have more/any club members down there helping out people there for the open house, rather than just shooting their own rifles and ignoring everyone and turning other away when they decided they were done shooting! I figured things out and got to sight in my long guns to 100 yds, but then I had to go... I'd definitely lik eto see those action pistol bays when their ready!

The rifle range was a real mess, wasn't it!? Sorry for the 10+ inches of rain a couple of days before the open house! The rifle range is always a little sloppy after a good rain, but I've never seen it quite like that!

I got down to the rifle range at about 1:30. Sorry I missed you. Did you get paperwork put in, need a hand, or have any questions I can help with?

Good for now - I have a 100+ yard pistol/rifle range in my back yard.... so the price is a little steep for me to use a 200 yard range 40 minutes from home! It was actually kind of refreshing to wade through shin deep rushing water to get out to the targets... should have brought a canoe! It was insane the amount of water out there, but I certainly don't blame the club for that.

Missed the open house :bangin:

Anyone want to invite a old retired Navy civilian for a tour of NVGC?
