The elusive combo gun

The combo gun has a long history, but they are seldom seen anymore. As far as I know, only the Russian Baikal combo guns are being imported into the US now, with no domestic production.

They're neat, handy little guns. Here are a pair of former Savage 24s, they are now Walking Sticks.

My dad bought a couple of the Savage Model 24's back in the early 70's (.22 rimfire over 20 ga.) for squirrel hunting. He said they were especially handy in the early part of the season (in WV) when the squirrels are coming to the hickory trees to feed. .22 for most shots, 20 ga. when the .22 won't do.

Those things go for around $400 at the gun shows these days.

Yep, well the generally sell for about $1700, but they are not big sellers so you aren't going to find much variety.

In fact I can't think of anyone else who is making a NEW combination gun these days. Sure there are a few replaceable barrel guns, but I'm talking true combo gun, with both barrels on it at the same time.

Remington did make a SPR-94 for about 2 years, and had some NICE combinations.

I very much liked the .22mag/.410

Looks like USSG took over the distribution of the Bikial guns after Remington dropped the line.

The USSG's can be found for about $300-$500 depending on the specific chamberings.

Nice! I always wanted one in .222 or .223 / 20 gauge. Now that I hunt predators I think a .222 or .223 / 12 gauge would be about awesome for some walking and calling.

I've got a Savage O/U, .22Mag over full-choke 20Ga Mag that I bought (second-hand but new) back in 1974 or so when they were just about to open up turkey season for the first time since re-stocking them. Guy I bought it from decided he really needed a .223 for turkey. Went back to school and never took it into the woods. Reckon I must still have it - - somewhere.

Around here (speaking of turkey hunting), walking and calling is a good way to get shot. I'd think it's a bad idea anywhere.

I meant walking long ways from stand to stand and not cheating by using a vehicle or atv or utv

The Baikal guns are being imported by EAA, though I haven't seen any in person yet.

The huge gap between the barrels makes me nervous for reasons I can't put my finger on. I had the impression that the shotgun barrel was on top, too, which just seems backwards.
