Va man charged with meat cleaver attack on mother
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A Richmond-area man is behind bars after police say he attacked his mother with a meat cleaver.
Henrico County Police say 25-year-old Joseph Yates was arrested Monday night and charged with aggravated malicious wounding.
Yates' mother reported she was on the phone with her daughter just before 11 p.m. when Yates went into the kitchen, returned with the meat cleaver and hit her in the head repeatedly. Police say she suffered multiple skull fractures and her thumb was nearly severed as she tried to defend against the attack.
After the assault, police say Yates returned to his room and got on the computer.
Yates' mother was taken to a hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.
It was not immediately known whether Yates had an attorney.
*** Pardon the parody of the VCDL Alerts. My first thought was "My mamma would pull her auto knife from her purse, and cut me like a sack o' taters if I did this crazy stuff!" Then I realized, not everyone's mamma carries an auto knife. ***
