Scope Problems

I picked up a GAMO Big Cat 1200 air rifle for $50 and figured I got a great deal. Now that it's legal to shoot it in my neighborhood I went outside to adjust the scope. Totally hosed. Dials are backward (left adjusts elevation and up adjusts windage). Tried adjusting anyway. Gets fairly close then next adjustment makes a 1 foot correction. Adjusting at 25 yards. Am I too close or is the scope hosed? Any ideas?

A new scope would probably cost more than I paid for the gun. Hoping there is a way to "reset".

I hate it when I pick up a "deal" and it ends up being a deal for a reason (isn't it usually that way?)

Unfortunately, I can't help with the scope. Does it have sights to? Just trash the scope and plink with it through iron sights.

The scope is toast. Get rid of it and shoot iron sites. You could go to walmart and get a cheap scope for around 30.00 or save up and get a better one there for around 80.00.

I know this is a stupid question but is the scope mounted rotated 90 degrees?
The knobs should be on the top and to the right when viewed from the stock.
The knob to the right should have an arrow and a label saying "left" and the knob on the top should have an arrow and a label saying "up".

Secondly, if the scope changes POA that easily and doesn't "settle in" after a couple of shots then the previous posters are correct, it's toast.

I started taking 3 shots before adjustments as 2 were always close, but 1 in 3 could be a stray. Guess that is the "settling in" you describe.

It's stamped "GAMO", so I'm assuming it's the one that came with the rifle.

Now you're throwing in another variable. A stray shot in a group could also be gun problem or shooter error. Most likely shooter.

Have you tried to zero using a decent rest? If not, try that. Dont worry about zero at first. Concentrate on a tight group.

I was using a wood brace and backed up against a shed. Wanted to be as accurate as possible. I was surprised I could do as well with my handgun without any support, but this is an inexpensive air rifle shooting lead pellets.
