Richmonder, looking for a small spot of land to shoot
Richmonder, looking for a small spot of land to shoot
Hello - I'm a new member living in Richmond. I have been hunting and shooting since I was a boy. Originally from the backwoods of Pittsylvania county, I've been living in the city for over 10 years now. I miss living on a lot of land where I could go out to my personal make-shift range to shoot.
First - thank you all for having a welcoming and informative forum and website here. I'm excited to be a part of it.
Second: I hope this isn't wildly inappropriate to do this here, but let me blatantly ask you all the possibility of finding a place to shoot. I like ranges just fine, but I prefer to be outdoors with friends doing different kinds of safe shooting.
IF anyone here has some land they'd be willing to lend or lease for shooting (light use, 1-2 times per month), I'd be very interested. Something within 30 minutes of Richmond. I really just want an area that works for handguns and rifles - so an area with a hill, and possibly an area for casual skeet shooting. Heck, it would even be nice to have a private place nearby to do some primitive camping when I need to get away. So maybe an acre or less. We don't want to roam around or set up hunting stands. Just an area about the size of a football field - maybe less. I have 3-4 friends (all have gun experience and have CC training & permits and/or NRA certifications) who would also be interested in finding a good place to shoot and would be willing to pay for the privilege to have their own place to go shoot.
I'm willing to have a liability waiver that absolves you of any liability, and would make any agreement as official as it needs to be to make you comfortable with the arrangement. I could even arrange to let you know the days, times and names of people coming to shoot just so you fully know when and who will be present, and let you know when we've left. I am interested only in a small slice of the outdoors for recreation that will have minimal impact on the land.
Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. I just signed up for more info from colonial. Honestly, a range in lakeside would be really convenient.

Welcome to VGOF
I shoot on a friends property. Out of all the good ol' freedom loving Southern folks in Augusta County, there has to be one anti-gun, sandal and bead wearing, butterfly worshiping, unicorn believing, poodle farming hippy leg humper that calls the cops on my friend and I every time we shoot. We even invited the "hug-a-thug" over for a BBQ and some range time, but they'd rather hide behind their rainbow and call the police every time they hear something loud. Hope you find a better place.

Best of luck finding a place. We just found a spot where we can hold our live fire classes at an outdoor range. I had been searching for a while.
