Hello VGOF members, I purchased a Colt XSE Combat Elite earlier this year and want to get some work done on it. Nothing major as it will be a "combat gun." I'm thinking I will have someone do a reliability check, (it's been 100% with 250 FMJ's and 50 various HP's including those finicky Speer 200g flying ashtrays), add a solid 10-8 trigger with trigger job, switch to an Ed Brown MSH, gently smooth the sharp edges, refit a poorly fitted Smith and Alexander grip safety, checker front strap, add gold bead to front sight, bead blast and refinish in Melonite, Ceracoat, Ionbond, etc. (durable finish).
Currently it has a stainless frame which I will either have bead blasted dull or refinished dark, not completely sure, but I don't like the polished steel flats. I ditched the full length guide rod and added a Brown GI rod and plug. Other than the parts I've stated to be replaced I am happy with it stock. The functional issues I have with it right now are mainly due to the razor sharp edges on the thumb safety and sharp edges around grip safety when it is depressed.
Who do you guys like to do this stuff to your 1911's here in Virginia?
Suggest a good local or state 1911 smith, Salem/Roanoke area
