Hmm. Let's suppose your the govt. You have discovered that an alien/zombie/monster attack is imminent. What would you do? If you broadcast this, there would be mass panic. But what if..through the entertainment industry you
started to broadcast shows about people trying to survive alien/zombie/monster attacks. You could expose, teach, and familiarize couch potatoes with the concept of fighting back and surviving. And there sure have been a bunch-o shows/movies lately....Battleground:LA, Skyline, The Walking dead, Falling Skies, Book of ELi, etc. etc.

I'm not so sure about that - and think about this -since the downturn of the economy, how many of us are starting to spend less on luxuries and put a little extra in the pantry, or learn to grow our own vegetables?
Is the economic downturn intentional - to make us tougher?

Back to the subject of a VGOF Resistance....

I am not a ham radio operator, but I do possess a 40 channel CB radio.

Should entertainment be required, I am capable of eating fire and making balloon animals. As a bonus, I am an impressively mediocre guitar player with a singing voice that's slightly less abrasive than fingernails on a chalkboard. I even know a couple of jokes!

I like this idea and am in, if you don't mind someone who is slightly paranoid, has a knowledge of poinsonous flora and fauna, a dark sense of humor, and likes knives mabey a little too much!

I also play banjo, have a sense of smell like a dog, am creeped out by clowns.....and this is not making me look any more sane is it? Well I do have guns!

Assuming the enemy isn't our own government you'd likely be better off joining up with the armed services.

Practical advice for a young man, but for those of us with families/not service aged we have to take our chances with nonsense at the homefront. As far as a VGOF resistance I think when you are looking for a way to deal with zombies or a falling apart gov't you want to think local local local with possible outreaches to other local communities. Even if there are other VGOF members in my county unless they live the next neighborhood over we are on our own mostly. It is going to be you with your buddies in your ever so local community trying to at all costs defend your little neighborhood. Unless we were all bugging out to several pre-arranged locations. If that is the case I can make good tortillas with just a few ingredients .

I'm trying to teach my kids to be tough, sometimes it's at the expense of "being a kid" (IE: NO CRYING!), but in tougher times, you need that steel inside. I would love for them to have experienced the freedom of wandering a neighborhood like i did when I was younger, but with perverts, and idiots on cellphones behind the wheel, I ain't risking mine.

I cannot join the armed services, I'm past age, round, and kinda broken.

BUT! I am a qualified leather smith, minor skills in wood/metal working, and amateur gun smith capable of making minor repairs, and adjustments....Plus? I own a PLETHORA of tools for the above.

Also, I was a trained line cook for the Hyatt Hotel kitchens, I can drive just about anything with a motor, and wheels, and I have pretty mean triva skills.

If the economy collapses, I think the urban areas will lose it first, then discomfort moves to the suburbs, finally to the rural areas, where luxuries may be lost, but food is home grown, and families join together...

I lived in an apartment for 10 years in the city, and knew my neighbor across the way, but the ones around me rotated so often, I never got to know them.

I have seriously discussed several scenarios with my friends: the zombie apocalypse (think rapidly spreading pandemic of any sort); civil insurrection (not mine, but others - race riots, anti-government protests); natural disasters (Katrina); reaction to the above (NOPD during Katrina); nuclear accident; and of course, NBC attack against the US. We've discussed the plan(s) a few times, but don' 't have anything locked down. I think only a few of us stockpile any ammo, food, or water.
