HIGH SCHOOL --1957 vs. 2011

Post by Taggure »

I got this in my email from a friend today and thought that I would share it with everyone, but it especialy hits home for us that are over 50.

You know by today's standards none of us were supposed to ever make it.

Enjoy
Vern

Scenario 2:

1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up buddies.

2010 - Police called and SWAT team arrives -- they arrest both Johnny and Mark. They are both charged with assault and both expelled even though Johnny started it.

ACLU files class action lawsuit against the state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English is then banned from core curriculum. Pedro is given his diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for aliving because he cannot speak English.

Scenario 7:

Time have surely changed!

Sad but true.

This happened.

http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/Story?id=4537765&page=1
Savana Redding says she was "confused" and "ashamed" after the officials in Safford, Ariz., suspected her in 2003 of giving other students prescription Ibuprofen pills and ordered her to expose her breasts and pelvic area during a search in the school nurse's office. She denied having any pills, and none were found. Her mother later filed on her behalf a federal lawsuit claiming the search was unreasonable and therefore illegal.
SCOTUS agreed:

http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/Story?id=4537765&page=1
The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that school officials violated an Arizona teenager's rights by strip-searching her for prescription-strength ibuprofen, declaring that U.S. educators cannot force children to remove their clothing unless student safety is at risk.

In an 8-1 ruling, the justices said that Safford Middle School officials violated the Fourth Amendment ban on unreasonable searches with their treatment of Savana Redding. The court ruled that the officials could not be held financially liable but left it to lower courts to decide if the school district could.

Not shocked who the sole dissenting opinion belonged to:
In a dissent, Justice Clarence Thomas said the search had been legal and the court previously had given school officials "considerable leeway" under the Fourth Amendment in school settings.
Yeah, the PC liberals are the only pushing for a police state.

1957 -- We all laugh because the OP is a joke..and there's no Internet.

2011 -- Everyone wonders WTF has happened, but is afraid to say anything lest they be labeled as "extremists" by the White House...

Outside of a few things the left doesn't really push for a police state, that's mostly a right wing thing. That doesn't mean that they don't want to use the state for other purposes such as telling everyone how to live their lives or that they will do more than talk about stopping it (e.g. Patriot Acts). At the end of the day the left are more than happy to compromise with the right to sacrifice liberty on the alter of security in exchange for social programs, but their agenda generally isn't advocating a police state.

That's why I use the term statism or statist. The problem with the police state and the socialist state are the same thing...they both advocate the state over individual liberty.

And Gunderwood comes back with a bang. :welcome: back

Anyone thought about opening a private school, where the teachers are required to carry a firearm to protect the students? Chances are that kind of school wouldn't have this kind of PC BS.

Johnny scraped his knee and cried in high school?

Other than that there were a lot of similarities between 1957 and my high school in North Carolina in 1987.
