Crossbreed Mini Tuck (Leather) - How to eliminate squeak?

Post by Kotar »

I have a Crossbreed mini-tuck. It is part leather and part kydex. It's a nice holster, but recently I've noticed enough squeak that I am convinced people either think my sneakers are really annoying or I'm carrying.

I've tried using a bit of wax on the pinch points to quiet the holster down. It helps, but I can't seem to rid the holster of all the noise.

Any recommendations?

Mine doesn't squeak after having it for the better part of the year, however I have seen where others reported it. The fix (for them) was to wipe the leather down with saddle soap.

Use either saddle soap or a good quality leather conditioner. But use it sparingly so it doesn't leave enough reside to stain your clothes.

I've found that mink oil does a great job on leather. It penetrates the leather well and keeps it from drying out. Be sure to buff it off well to keep it off of your clothing after treating the holster.

Talcum powder or cornstarch at seams/contact points can help. I've also heard of lightly sanding a leather belt or holster at contact points to somewhat degloss the leather. I don't think you want to turn it into suede, just knock the shine off a bit.
Let us know what ends up working for you.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will start with saddle soap and report back.

Have you pinpointed where the noise is? I have a super tuck for my 226. The squeak came from the where the barrel end of the slide contacted the leather. I simply scuffed that area & the noise vanished.

Not yet. I thought I had before I tried wax. The noise continues...

I will work on one spot at a time, though, to see if I can pinpoint the source of the noise.

OK. I think I have (finally) gotten rid of the squeaking.

Initially I thought the noise was primarily from the J-Clips (they plastic clips the velcro to my belt for maximum concealment). However, after using wax, and then saddle soap, the noise continued.

I was rather annoyed with the continuing noise, so instead of painstakingly working on area after another to find the exact source, I really lathered up the saddle soap and spread it on every area of the holster that I thought might cause friction.

Tonight the holster is quiet, and I'm happy.

The saddle soap, when applied liberally, worked.

I purchased the saddle soap at Wal Mart.

Thanks all.
