Ammo In A Hot Car?

I stopped carrying during the week because I cannot bring it into my workplace, and with it getting really hot i'm afraid to leave it in my car. Should I be worried about leaving a loaded(ammo in general whether its loaded or not)gun in my car during the summer or am I just being over cautious? To me it seems like a no brainer, you shouldn't leave it in there. What do you say? Thanks for the advice.

You should be worried about your employer seeing this post! I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep it it in a safe bolted to the car. I don't think you'll get close to 160-170 degC(http://avogadro.chem.iastate.edu/MSDS/s ... powder.htm)

I sure hope it's okay, I've got ammo that's been in my trunk for years...

The ambient air temperature in a car will never get high enough to set off any type of modern ammunition. Just keep it as low as possible, such as under the seats, and out of direct sunlight. An old surplus ammo can kept in the trunk works best.

I'm not sure detonation was what the OP was concerned about, more along the lines of degradation of the powder or primer. A trunk will get hot enough to melt cosmoline (around 150 deg. Fahrenheit, IIRC).

Heat and humidity are not good for ammo, but they can take both and still work. Just not for extended periods of time.

Thanks for all the info. I was just curious because some days when i get into my car i burn my hand on my shifter, so i was a little concerned about my cw in my glovebox.
