FNH USA FNP 45 USG

Post by MastaCAK47 »

Well, I honestly don't know how too start this one off. I bought a FNP 45 USG back in December 2010, at first sight the gun looked OK, no serious issues, not until I finally got it apart and when cleaning the barrel I noticed there was a large machine burr around the crowning and a small bit of the crowning looked slightly caved in. I questioned this one with the company and had it shipped for service. 3 months pass and finally I get this firearm back. The firearm looked shot quite a bit, I questioned this too myself and shrugged it off. I go too the range, fire the firearm, it jams up.... Mind you I tried all different ammo in standard full metal jacket, not too mention often times manually 'shucking' the slide back manually it would lock up on certain rounds. I was pissed considering the wait...

I come in contact with the company again, I again ship the firearm for service. Here I wait another 3 months, finally the arrival of a replacement pistol. This looked too be new, I looked at the testing round and it was tested earlier of the month I recieved it. As excited as I was I figured maybe it was fixed. :first: I go too the range, purchase a box of ammo, now I put one cartridge in instead of loading the magazine too full for testing purposes, as I expected it too malfunction. I fire the FNP and it fires but does not lock back open (Empty magazine present in firearm), I shuck the slide back and a casing comes out.... Boy was I ever pissed, 6 months for an item I paid $640 for and yet still malfunctions. I decide, screw it, load up the magazine too full and try too fire it again. Same issue, it fires and jams up, not too mentioned you must manually shuck the slide too get the shot casing out. My range master looked at it, fired it, same issues were present with him as well. (Which I know wouldn't make any difference upon which indiviual who shot it.) He did say the cartridge chambered seemed loose.

I've contacted the company and the firearm is in for service too this day. I've pretty much given up on this gun so I'm replacing it with a Glock 21. Yes, it's bulkier, but it works.

Apart from FNH USA, I give them thumbs up for the customer service they give, so I have no complaints on there customer service side. Apart from the gun itself, I know many people like them and have never had issues with their firearms, unforunatly a years worth of wait is just too much for a firearm of this type of brand, especially on what will be the forth replacement. While I can say they have 'tried', I did not receieve any of the firearms until after I called and informed them.

The firearm is definently attractive/appealing too the eye and it certainly does not lack any options such as backstrap replacements as well as ambidexterous controls. Magazine capacity can go up too 15 rounds, but of course rattles in the magazines which I'm considering is mainly because of the type of round as most Hi Cap .45s seem too have this issue. The barrel is cold hammer forged and has a polished feed ramp. The melonite finish that's available is virtually indestructible, you can drop it on concrete and not hurt the finish. The barrel's finish is another story, however. It's definently a better buy then the H&K in my opinion.

Apart from the issues I've given above, has anyone else ever had this issue with this or any other brand?

Wow sorry to hear about your troubles! I wonder what the issue was.

I've had an FNP-45 (not a USG) for about two years during which I've put about 600+ rounds through it with no issues. I can't understand why the dealer didn't step up and replace it on the first go-round.

I hope you're able to resolve this issue. I think the FNP is far superior to an ugly Glock any day.

Hey sorry to hear about all the issues you had with your fn. I've had my fnp 45 usg for about a year and a half. Shot about 1200 rounds through it, and the only malfunctions I had were literally the first 2 shots ever out of the gun, the were fte. I highly recommend the gun. Hope you can give fn another chance down the line, though I wouldn't blame you if you didn't.

Sorry to hear about your travails. Sounds like you were struck by the proverbial lightning bolt, which is never pleasant. I've fire a number of .45ACP FNP USPs, including the USG, without ever encountering a malfunction of any kind. Admittedly, though, I didn't have a high round count on any individual pistol. I'm not particularly fond of the trigger, but have found them to be reliable combat pieces. Hopefully the current round of maintenance will resolve the issue, but it sounds like they should just give you a new exchange.

Well, despite all the mess, I'm going too keep it just because I like the looks of it, in fact the GLOCK 21 I got has extractor issues, specifically with empty casings being directed at the user when extracted. :bangin: I'm having it serviced this weekend, I work two jobs so I may have too do another background check seeing as I won't be able too pick it up the same day, which is okay by me. (law enforces that firearms in service which are picked up on different day of servicing date, they must do a background check.)

Apart from FNH USA, I spoke with one of the reps and he has informed me that new machinery was in place which could be the issue with the FNP.

I trust FNH USA will make it better, I just have too be patient. I just want both guns too perform properly so I can get these issues out of the way. :coffee:

Are you still using the same magazines, or did you get new ones from FN?.

Also, are they 14 or 15 round mags?.

Well it's getting replaced again, but they replaced it with 14 round magazines (the one I have just sent in), and I did try using different magazines that were sent with it, one was even a 15 round magazine. But regardless of magazine the problem was still there. I just gave them a call yesterday and they said for me too give it a couple of weeks as it's still with the gunsmith, something gets too me though that it'll be there for another 3 months... :packin:
