If they want you to "sign some form" for a piece of property you already lawfully own, it is not your problem if they did not follow proper protocols.
Tell them to pound sand.
Alternately, if they feel that strongly about it, they can dispatch one of their by-the-hour lackeys to your home address (which they obviously already have) with the form in-hand.
You are being inconvenienced for their error. Nutz to them. Maybe you go pick up the certified letter when you ship Christmas presents out mid-December.
Dicks called - Errors on forms...
Re: Dicks called - Errors on forms...
Well, I got the letter today during lunch. Man I hate going to the main post office. It is a good drive from where I work and live.
But anyways. The letter basically says the same thing as the voicemails (which I downloaded to my computer jic). The only difference is that they finally say that it is "their" error. The exact words are:

I am going to give them a call in a little bit and see where it goes. The person that made the first call and signed this letter is a young (by the sound of her voice) female manager and had nothing to do with the forms or selling me the gun. I only dealt with males that day. So, to avoid getting this girl in trouble, I will get it fixed. Now that they finally said it was their error. If we do not get a response from you within 7 days, we are required to notify the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms of our error.

They socially engineered your compliance by getting a young chick to call you. Nice.
Sadly, I'd probably fall for it too.

Fall for it? I'm now thinking about buying a gun from Dick's just so I can get a call from a young chick. Seems like a win-win to me.
Re: Dicks called - Errors on forms...
Since it's their error and you have to go so far out of your way, make sure you get compensated. The same thing happened to be a few years ago. I got a few boxes of ammo for my troubles.

Re: Dicks called - Errors on forms...
Well I've called the past 2 days and this manager hasn't been there. They told me today that she is working the morning shift tomorrow, so I will try to call in the morning.
I wouldn't say they socially engineered me, because when I call her tomorrow, I will let her know that I am not coming for free. If she doesn't want to compensate me to what I feel is right, then they will end up reporting their error. Her title on the letter is "Hardline Manager", so I am assuming she is above that section manager that handles the guns.Diomed wrote:They socially engineered your compliance by getting a young chick to call you. Good god folks. It is such a stretch to go back and assist an ffl that may have missed a crucial element. You will cause some poor kid to loose their job. Maybe that will help you sleep better. The clerk wasn't saying the op would have issues with ATF but that the ffl would have issues. This kind of arrogant selfishness is exactly what is wrong with this country. I for one think the op is being a bit of an ass. I am a bit late to the post but I was just browsing and wanted future readers to rethink their ass arrogance.

I tend to agree with lizjimbo except for one detail. If we continue to tolerate incompetence in our society we will have more of it. I have become a cranky old man when it comes to others not doing the job they have when some of us can't get hired for anything close to what our qualifications are. Lots of the younger generation feel they are owed a job and as long as they show up they are good. It might be time to make them sweat a little when they screw up. I didn't grow up in the "everybody gets a trophy" world and it is time they grew up.
