I am a dealer so I have an idea what is ethical, right?
Recently my Daughter and her whole family moved to the state of Virginia. I BORROWED them a small conceal and carry 9mm for the road trip and told them to Mail it back to me. They went in to VIRGINIA ARMS CO in MANASSAS VIRGINIA and talked to BERNIE. He charged them $55.00 to JUST SEND THE GUN BACK TO ME, $30.00 for a transfer and $25.00 shipping He didnt have to do any transfers or any real paperwork just throw it in a box and send it out, He was given a copy of my FFL so it was FFL TO FFL. THAT COSTS $18.50 FFL TO FFL. I do it all the time, right.
JUST WOULD LIKE EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT YOUR GOOD PRICED FIREARMS ARE BEING PARTIALLY PD FOR BY THIS KIND OF TRANSACTION. And by the way in AZ NO ONE CHARGES OVER $25.00 for a TRANSFER, most charge $20.00. THAT DEALERS NAME GOES DOWN IN MY BOOK, THAT IS FOR SURE!!!!!
Ouch, a while back I heard Green Top was charging $70.

I dont think it is Virginia Arms in particular - it's the Northern Va area market. It's what the market will bear. We in NOVA pay a premium to live in this fine area, so close to our esteemed congress, senate and president.
I wish I could type more, but it's now 18:00 - I have to go to bed so I can get up at 2am to drive 30 miles to my job. But dont worry, it only takes me 3 hours to drive that 30 miles.

Just trying to make a point. There isn't much personal kindness any more. FFL TO FFL usually gets breaks between the two parties. It was a $200.00 8 yrs old plastic wonder but it is worth $50.00 I guess IN FACT NOW IT IS WORTH $250.00, HA HA After I pay back my son-in-law. REMEMBER $18.50 shipping is the correct price
NO BULL I just imported 6 shotguns, OLD, from Germany and the client pd all the shipping for them. He was retiring from the military after 30 yrs and I felt I owed him my help. I CHARGED HIM 0000000000000 for $29,000.00 value of guns. I guess I was just being OVERLY SOFT but I thought he deserved that RESPECT from me, and he did pay all the upfront shipping cost. I am from the old school, you can run a business and still make money & still treat people well

And you probably just got yourself a loyal customer that will give you the best advertising...
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?
I hear ya, but widefat has a point. They charge it because the market can bear it and the cost of everything here is so much higher than most of the country. I'd say that $35-$50 is average around here, although as Jake noted I've heard of much higher. Sorry to hear about your experience...just don't go looking for a house around here or you'll die of a heart attack.

YOU ARE 100% RIGHT. If I had only known AH THE OLD SAYING!!! But I think the more important point is:
A business reputation takes alot of people to build and very few people to damage. This is the day when the AVERAGE person can go on his AVERAGE laptop and order JUST ABOUT ANY GUN at a LOWER price than the small firearms dealer can get it for. The computer boasts low price on the weapon with NO SALES TAX or SHIPPING CHARGES. The local gun dealer has HIS HANDS- ON SHOP, HIS KNOWLEDGE, HIS CONTINUING SERVICE, HIS CUSTOMER FRIENDLY ATTITUDE and his REPUTATION on his side. I had my own insurance agency also for 20+ yrs also and I knew that When they came in the door they were usually looking for MORE THAN PRICE and that a lot of my clients were staying NOT BECAUSE OF PRICE. So the final thing I have to say is EXAMPLE++++ Client comes in, tells you hey My father-in law BORROWED me this firearm, here is his FFL sheet, could you send it back to him. YOU BOX IT UP AND SEND IT OUT PRIORITY MAIL $10.50, Smile at him, talk to him tell him how long you have been at this address etc tell him that you are running some great specials_______OR_____ you see this newcomer and think, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ lets see what we can make off him. QUESTION What chance do you think VIRGINIA ARMS stands to get my son-in-law to come in and see them again for a new product or any service??. I told three different dealers down here about that transaction and they all shook their heads, AND KEPT SHOOTING THEIR GUNS AT THE RANGE, while shaking their heads. Chances are that I, PERSONALLY, will never have to send a firearm out there to them and CHANCES are that I will never have to buy anything out there and have it shipped here though them, BUT IF THE OPPORTUNITY EVER DID ARRISE, WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now four dealers have that attitude here also. It all boils down to how you treat the customer. Just as a sidelight, the military man that got the good deal from me on his weapons, his brother has purchased three weapons from me also since, the ATF lady that expidited my import license through has a spouse in the military, GOOD REPUTATION
This is a problem with forums like this. You are unhappy about being charged for an agreed upon service and you proclaiming from the websites about how bad this ship is. I bet that you did not check out the positive things that people have had to say about VA Arms. Here is one example http://vagunforum.net/post85954.html?hi ... rms#p85954. Instead you join a local forum (VA vs AZ) to bad mouth them.
Personally I had a similar experience with my M&P after a reassembly mishap. I have also made other purchases there and found their staff to be knowledgeable and helpful. I am sure that the people at VA Arms did not just surprise your son-in-law with the charges.
HEP That is the reason for a forum, your OPINIONS AND EXPERENCES. Good or bad they all have a place here. That is what a lot of people are dieing for over seas, FREE SPEECH

OLDGUN64 I think you really don't understand how expensive it is in the Northern Virginia/ DC area. A $100.000 house in Tuscon would cost $300,000 in Alexandria, so if the gun store owner charges triple to use his FFL it's to help him cover the cost of keeping the business' door open.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?
Hi grump Nice to hear from you. I really have NOT been to the eastern US. I know that housing costs more there from what the daughter says but also the income I believe is higher also. My son in law got a $30,000 raise going there from here and my Daughter,RN, stands to make quite a bit more also. Does the firearms purchased cost the dealer more there than in AZ, how about the supplies that he stocks, targets, mags, etc. I am sure ,IF HE HAS RENT, it is higher but I still think you can catch more bees with honey than alcohol. Sure would be nice to work on the east side an commute home to AZ say once a month. Hope that my MIDWEST LOGIC isn't too straight foreward for you boys out east, ha, ha. PS I was not attacking anyone there just voicing my opinion and I didn't join to attack anyone I joined to get referrences where I could call to help out my kids in their BIG move, and happened to find this forum. ANYONE OF YOU BOYS ARE WELCOME ON ANY AZ FORUM, ALSO. I LIKE YOUR FORUM so if it is ok I will stay around
