Bowling pin match
Bowling pin match
We went to our first pin match this past weekend, and had a blast! My 16yr old son and I had a couple of strings in the 6-7 sec range. Pin matches seemed to be quite popular years ago, now I see why. Too bad more local ranges dont have pin matches. It would be a great way to bring in customers as well as a lot of cash-ola.

what range did you go to?

Fairfax Rod and Gun Club. Hatfields Gunsmithing puts it on, good bunch of people, and they build some freakin nice guns. 2nd sunday of the month, schedule is on Hatfields web site.

I'm interested in trying it, but not interested enough to drive two or three hours one-way to a match.

+1 Sounds like good family fun but the 2 hour car ride with NoVa traffic does not!Diomed wrote:I'm interested in trying it, but not interested enough to drive two or three hours one-way to a match.

Pin matches are tons of fun.
I've even built a few guns specifically to shoot pin matches.

Re: Bowling pin match
I highly recommend this bowling pin match to everyone within reasonable distance of Manassas. My uncle and I went today, showed up right at 0930, and there was already a good crowd. Very well run by the club members and Hatfields Gunsmithing team. Was my first pin shoot, and really my first pistol competition at all. My best centerfire run was 6.24 seconds with my Rock Island Tactical 1911 in .45, and my best rimfire was 4.89 seconds with my Ruger MkIII 22/45, all iron sights. I took a crack with my PF-9, had a DNF after 21 shots, had one pin laying on the table pointed right at me. Second string took 12 shots, but still 20 seconds! S&W Sigma, had 6 & 7 second runs.... bottom line, we had a fun, safe time shooting today!

Looks like alot of fun actually. If I happen to be in the Fairfax area when they hold the next one me and my girlfriend may enter.
