Outdoor Ranges??

Post by HollowPoint »

Sure do wish there were more free public outdoor ranges or keep the WMA ranges open instead of closing them. From what I can tell, all the WMA public ranges are only open from Sept - Mar? Gets old paying anywhere from 8.00 - 20.00 an hour to go shooting!! Just my little rant for today...guess I will dry fire (with ammo in a different room) at the light switch and clear my 1 room apt!! :hysterical:

I've belonged to private ranges ever since my mid 20s. Those few public ranges I've visited had little to recommend them, dirty, cluttered, unsafe, structures shot up. Brings to mind 'that which belongs to everybody belongs to nobody' and is treated accordingly.
Most localities have Issac Walton parks that can be joined for very modest annual membership fees.
I've made some life long friends that I met at private ranges and learned even more from the members.

I might have to think about joining a club, especially if I can pretty much go when there is open range time. I'm in Stafford, so guess I need to figure out whats around. Thanks for the suggestion.

What about visitors to the club? I would assume that any shooting buddies I have now would also have to join the club to shoot with me.

Some clubs are pretty strict on the number of times guests can visit the range. There a number of unscrupulous individuals who would take advantage of the guests rule, they are found out quickly and escorted to the range gate, with their guests.
Most ranges are self policing.
