What was your first car?
Let's play this one. What was your first car? Post a pic of it or a reasonable facsimile. My first car was a Mercury Comet like this one:

Re: What was your first car?
My first was a '73 Mustang Fastback. It had Mach I stripes on it, but it wasn't a mach 1. It had a 351 Cleveland 2bbl in it. Definitely too much car for a 16 year old kid!
This isn't it, but a reasonable likeness. Mine wasn't as shiny

Re: What was your first car?
My first car...was totaled and creamed before it was really mine. Mom had an old Mercury boat and I drove it everywhere. I was coming up on my 17th birthday...came home from school one day and the old Merc was gone but mom was home. ?? A drunk GI, who we later found out was AWOL, creamed it while parked in front of the house and it had already been towed, along with his car, to the junk yard. Too poor to have it fixed. Mom rubbed salt in the wounds by telling me "David, I was gonna give you that car for your birthday."

Re: What was your first car?
My first car was a 78' plymouth volare station wagon with a hopped up 318 engine. It was a burnt orange color and had chrome
wheels. I have pics of it because I still had it when I got married. Shortly thereafter, I was hit from behind by a drunk man
doing approx. 75 mph and I was sitting still to make a left turn. It's a miracle that I survived that incident according to
chesterfield county police and ems. My daughter was two months old at that time. I will see if I can dig up some pictures of it.

Re: What was your first car?
Mine was a 1975 Pontiac Grand Safari station wagon with a 455 under the hood. We lovingly named it "The Titanic", and the back bumper was covered in bumper stickers (I believe there were 12 of them, but I don't remember anymore). You could seat 9 people in it (more if you weren't concerned about seat belts
)
The speedometer/odometer stopped working at about 120K miles, but I believe it had over 200K when it finally went to Station Wagon Heaven.

My first car was also a Mercury Comet. Light blue. My Dad bought it used from an insurance agency. It was a completely stripped-down model with the smallest engine available and NO options except an AM radio. It was hard-put to do the speed limit uphill in these parts with nothing BUT hills. I think the old man's theory was "Spoil the rod and spare the child."

Dear colleagues, I say we take up a collection and find that car or one just like it...I'd love to see Larry make that trade...we could film it and make a fortune at the box office...larry3100 wrote:A 1967 RS Camaro..metallic green..327 3 speed on the floor...not a hotrod by any means but man what a sweet little car would give my left n*t to have it back...
We could call it "Camaro Nuts"

1967 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport. Although, by the time I got it, it was just a pretty good sport.
I liked the car fine, but there are a lot of memories associated with the car.

Re: What was your first car?
as for the 67 Camaro, there is a guy roughly 10 miles from me that has one, original paint, small block, under 40,XXX original miles, I forget the engine size, it has bench seat, teal inside & out, coluum shift automatic. no rust, quite a beauty. probably could be bought? he is concerned about dying, he is in his 70's or 80's works everyday, & owns a junkyard, but has been selling off thousands of cars since his heart attack.
he also has a beautiful 68 blue convertible mustang, a 1 repaint heavy chevy monte carlo, saw hime a couple weeks ago driving an early 60's dodge convertible, he has more cars that I have ever seen, & many he has had for 20+ years. he has or had dozens of clean 60's or 70's drivers, not really looked around in 5 or so years, but see him out & about from time to time & he is related.
I wonder what the Camaro would do "steam cleaned" unrestored on Barret Jackson auctions, it is loaded with accessories, but never had any touchup, or rust, & is basically as new, other than tires, & what had to be replaced like battery, & hoses. has screw in stainless steel plates to keep from scratching around the key holes, he told me quite a bit about it, but I dont remember as that was last fall when I saw him out in it.
I heard he is selling junk cars off pretty cheap, he also has many model "A" vehicles, a couple model A trucks beside his shop, a beautiful one at his house, no telling how many junk 20's & up cars he has, or had....
now for my first car? first I bought when I was 13, was a 67 Mustang that I did a frame off rebuild with my dad, then sold it before I was old enough to drive it.
first car to drive when I was 16 was a 68 Nova that was my dads, when he passed away, first car I bought was a 1980 Fiat X1/9 & owned hundreds of cars since.

Re: What was your first car?
That is what I learned to drive in...took drivers ed in '67 and they had a new 67 impala (but not the ss) for us to learn in...it was a stock 327 with a "3 on the tree"newdovo wrote:1967 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport.
