McDonnel vs Deeds + The 2nd Amendment

I was checking out the candidates sites and was very surprised to see the 2nd amendment listed on McDonnels issues page,,, The speech he gave he said he fully supported gun rights and also in not so certain terms the protection of private property (Castle Doctrine) , Deeds on the other hand has nothing at all on his site regarding guns at all, Will be interesting to see what comes from the debates these 2 will be having if Deeds accepts McDonnels challenge to 10 of them...http://www.bobmcdonnell.com/index.php/i ... nt_rights/

The election for VA governor is 3 Nov 2009. Its time for us to come up with an action plan to promote and support McDonnel.

I agree with Bob on alot of things. Abortion is not one of them, but that is a whole nother topic.

We realy should find a way to promote him. I would def, be up for handing out stickers or something of the sort. It's time we took action and did something. What is most imortant is to get some of the lazy people off the couch and vote! A few of my family members who have nto voted in years will be hearing alota complaining from me this election.. hope it'll work lol.

Lots of ways to help promote a candidate. See his web site for volunteer opportunities. We can make phone calls, go door to door, or work in one of the campaign centers. Alot you can do from your own home.

I'm really torn on this one. McDonnell did us some favors as AG, but appears to be a johnny-come-lately to the pro-gun cause. Deeds, on the other hand, has a strong pro-gun record. Only recently has he been seen to reflect anti-gun sentiments. Without further digging, I don't know enough about either candidate to trust one with our gun rights, but my gut tells me the rural dem understands us better than the big-city republican.

George, here's a link to another post on the same subject. The NRA is stepping up to help us decide. NRA is a good ally and will hopefully provide sensible information so we can make an informed decision.

I had some reservation myself but I will say that the speech on the 2nd amendment that McdonnelI gave in front of a very large group of people who were very receptive to it made me think it over a little clearer, Politicians can change and of course we know it is to gain our support,, McDonnel is very aware of the consequences if he screws us after our support is given, Deeds could be good but he has already proclaimed he will close the "Gun Show Loophole" thinking it will arouse public sympathy,,,Not to mention that his site shows boring who gives a s*&^ stuff as his stand on issues, In the weeks to come we;ll get a better feel for things,, I trust the NRA;s opinion and value my own but only if I can base it on fact and not emotion or party line..

Wish I shared your trust in the NRA. They have a slick, well funded grassroots outreach going on, and it is an excellent way for beginners to get their feet wet. I was a member for years, but got discouraged and gave it up. I'm more inclined to trust "no compromise" groups like the GOA and VCDL than an outfit that would ally with the likes of Carolyn McCarthy, or try to derail a Supreme Court case because they were afraid that our side would LOSE.

It was the NVCDL (VCDL) that spearheaded "Shall Issue" in Virginia in the early '90s. The NRA and its Virginia affiliate (with whom I still have a lifetime membership) criticized the NVCDL for being too "in-your-face." The VCDL has vindicated themselves nicely, and any in-your-face attitude on their part now has been well earned.

I appreciate a candidate whose speech can stir our emotions; it is the hallmark of all really great politicians, and one thing our side desperately needs is persuasive speakers. But when the adrenaline subsides I often have difficulty reconciling that warm fuzzy feeling with what I know to be true.
