Mosin Nagant to Tokarev insert conversion?
Mosin Nagant to Tokarev insert conversion?
came across a 7.62x54 rifle chamber insert that makes it fit 7.62x25 at sportsmansclub. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=787954
has anybody played with one of these and know if they work? They had the ammo real cheap but are now sold out. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=789251
I assume you would have to load each shot as I seriously doubt the 25mm would work with the internal mag of the mosin. Or could you get 5 of the inserts and then use the internal mag? I assume 25mm surplus ammo is just as corrosive as surplus 54, or would it be even worse due to lower velocity causing quicker build up?

Some one posted a review of a similar product but instead for .32 I think. If I can dig up the review I'll link you to it.

"Low recoil meets low noise! Now you can make your 7.62x54R or .303 cal. Rifle more "town friendly" quiet. This blued steel Rifle Chamber Insert converts your gun to 7.62x25.
Your gun instantly becomes low recoil and low noise (similar in volume to a magnum air rifle). Helps young shooters learn not to flinch."
BULLSHIT
I have a cz52 in 25mm and it is not "town friendly quiet". The surplus ammo is corrosive. Young shooters should learn with a .22 not a mosin.

LOL. Not concerned with young shooters. Not that concerned with noise either as I have fired both a 9mm hi-point [the fish tank filter that had been tormenting me for over five years really deserved it], and a taurus 40cal [another piece of electronics that really deserved it], I had to let the neighbor who noticed fire the taurus in his yard as well]. While on less than an acre I'm not in city limits and have an embankment [giant pile of dirt] and do not fire off random rounds while screaming alla ackbar, nor do I shoot after 5pm. I have subsonic rounds for my p22 but I do not think I will be shooting in my yard again unless warranted/in self defense in which case I don't care who hears the noise. Although I do have an x-box 360 that is going to die a horrible death once I transfer the hard drive data.moss20 wrote:"Low recoil meets low noise! Now you can make your 7.62x54R or .303 cal. What I want to know is how will it affect my mosin? I still have yet to fire my mosin as when I picked it up I scored two dragoon's and kept the earlier '23 and bought ammo to fire from the one from '27 my friend took. I have a couple of non-corrosive boxes of ammo for it but the idea of shooting it a lot without damaging it is very tempting and the non corrosive 7.62x54 is not cheap compared to surplus. I clean every gun within a day of firing it just cause I'm anal and grandpa was a marine, but how much damage can occur in 24 hours? I've heard of spraying with windex as soon as you are done firing BUT does any damage occur regardless? Any damage>no damage.

I assume you didn't get pissed out and just start firing off rounds indescribably. I would excise extreme caution when shooting in a small area. Always make sure you have the proper backstop. ANY accident reflects extremely poorly on the gun community.kanata67 wrote:LOL. Not concerned with young shooters. I am planned and methodical in my revenge against inanimate objects always. Dug a 3' hole in front of a 6' high by 15' wide wall of earth and fired into the hole. Some people simply throw away a device that has tormented them. I spend extra effort to make it suffer. The scene from "office space" where they beat the copier... they didn't even set it on fire or piss on it, it didn't suffer enough.Jakeiscrazy wrote:I assume you didn't get pissed out and just start firing off rounds indescribably. Only problem I ever had was when a crossbow bolt went through my shooting tree! I took the tree down as a result so I would never be tempted again. Kinda sucked as I had to burn it into pieces where it lay over a period of months as it looked like a porcupine and I didn't want to hit an embedded broad head with a chain-saw. BTW I had a cell phone mounted to the tree with a bolt through it's display screen. I had a photo of it, but it was on the phone that replaced it that went into the hole after the fish tank filter.

Re: Mosin Nagant to Tokarev insert conversion?
I have waited until the next day to clean the wife's mosin when getting home late from a day at the range with no i'll effects. From reading many mosin forums, silver bear works well and winchester does not when using non-corrosive ammo. Suggest a limb saver cushion if planning on firing alot in one outing. FYI--#4 on the factory rear sight is good at 150 yards. It is fun to shoot and will draw attention when fired at a public range with other people. My 12yr. old son liked it except for the weight.

Re: Mosin Nagant to Tokarev insert conversion?
thanks Jakeiscrazy and moss20, that answered most of my questions. As for the "limb saver cushion" I pass. Good to work the shoulders loose. Not sure which kicks worse, my mosin or my 7mm mauser. Makes me want to try the mauser 8mm. Lord knows I can't afford ammo for a barret 50, much less the gun itself. One can dream though
