Gun show on Friday

Post by TheEqualizer »

Any VGOFers going to the show in Chantilly this weekend? I am going to do what I did last time. Go on Friday and get a 3 day pass. That way I can go back over the weekend without waiting in line. It was crazy crowded last time. Probably will be just as crowded this weekend.

I am going to treat myself to a high end 1911. You only live once. Image

I'm going on Saturday in the afternoon. I don't own a car any more so I'm renting one from the airport (DCA). I hope to find some magazines for the new STI GP-6, but I doubt these are common enough to find for less than what STI sells them for. Otherwise, I'll just look around and get some exercise by walking up and down the aisles.

Remember that while DCA is on Virginia grounds some of the roads surrounding it are actually part of DC. i.e. simply possession of a gun PART and go to prison. Also the only exception to having firearms on the grounds of DCA or IAD is as a passenger of an Airline with a ticket. Just something to keep in mind. I would hate to see you get your new toy(s) confiscated without even getting to use them.

I was there from open to close on Friday. Crowded but not like the weekends.

I wish I had 100 Ruger LC9s for sale. Could have made a mint. Everyone was asking for them but no dealers had them in stock.

Typical sea of polymer pistols. I have a Glock (which I love) but I do love 1911s.

Hardly anyone had any high end 1911s which I thought was surprising. Saw one Wilson, a few Les Baers, and a couple of Nighthawks.

Here is a funny story.

I ran into an acquaintance of mine who was looking to sell his AR in 6.8

We were both over at the Trader Jerrys booth (mobbed as usual.) He was offered $1000.00 for it and always wanted a Les Baer. I told him I did too. They had 5.

All slightly different models.

Well, he wound up buying one for $1800.00 ($800 with his trade.)

I fell in love with the one Thunder Ranch Special they had in Chrome.

Talked him down a drop to $2200.00. Now the proud owner of a Les Baer. Man, that is one tight gun. Tighter than my Ed Brown I used to own.

They give you a barrel bushing wrench which you need to use. No way you can hand turn that sucker. Need to put several hundred rounds through it to loosen the gun up a bit.

Sweet gun and good looking.

Have the 3 day pass and will head back for some ammo and a couple of Wilson mags if I can find 'em.

Supposedly Trader Jerry had a couple, they were sold either before the show opened or within minutes of opening. The public never sees the great deals. :P
