First Gun Needs Food.

Post by typ0w »

I just bought my first gun, a SKS.
My second I'm planning to be a Mosin Nagant.

Anyways, The day I bought my SKS I was so excited to shoot it I bought the cheapest amo I saw out of two stores which was over 1$ a bullet.

I saw there were other forums about ammo, but I wanted to post my own question.
Where are some places that I can buy 7.62x39mm in bulk for a discounted price?

A gun without bullets is a sad thing to own!

Cheaper Than Dirt or The Sportsman's Guide usually has bulk Russian 7.62x39mm (steel case) ammo for reasonable prices. I like the Ulyanovsk or Tula in the 640 rounds spam cans. The Wolf Military Classic is good as well in 1000 rd cases.

Lists a variety of sources for on-line ammo sales. They also normally only list in-stock, which can help when stocks get low. You do have to look for occasional errors in price since they have a automatic method to generate the list and it sometimes screws up. Tula is listed at $0.21 per round.

There are some other consolidation websites out there as well, but I have not used them, that work with other vendors.

For an SKS get the cheapest Russian stuff...it doesn't really matter IMHO.

These are on special right now, and if you buy a case, you get free UPS Ground shipping.

500 rounds per case (25 boxes of 20 rounds each)

$14.96 per box of 20 or $374.06 for a case of 500 rounds.

Thank you for all of the information.

I'll be placing an order for something in the 20 cent/bullet range.
In the meantime I asked around and found a small store that stocks at around 30 cents.

The best deal going pricewise is Yugo surplus; AIM Surplus is selling it already in SKS clips. It's corrosive, however, so you'll have to clean it properly after using. You don't say what kind of SKS it is, if it's Yugoslavian it's not chromed like the design should be, so you're in for a treat cleaning it if you shoot corrosive in it. Russian and Chinese Simonovs are made correctly and will be a bit easier to deal with.

The steel case stuff is fine; the best of the bunch is probably Golden Tiger. Slightly more expensive but it's lacquer coated like commie ammo is supposed to be.

I realize that my price above is quite a bit more than 30 cents per round, but that's what I get for only having quality brass and not cheap Russian surplus available. As stated above, there are plenty of places where you can get the cheap Russian stuff pretty cheap.

I found out today that my 30 cent bullets were steel jacketed lead and my local shooting range did not allow them.
I guess that I'll have to find somewhere else to shoot them. :)

My SKS says "made in china by usa" with a serial number, chinese markings, and a triangle design.
So I guess chinese made is the answer.

Rick's may cost a few pennies more but they are RELOADABLE and that makes it worth while.

Hey Walmart sells 20 rounds of 7.62x39 for $4.97 a box and an SKS will eat that all day long and keep asking for more. My 56 ChiCom SKS loves those little white boxes. Make sure you stock up this weekend at the Gun show at the Dulles Expo Center with the SPAM Cans.

I will show you mine Now show me yours :gunporn: :lovegunporn:

Make sure you bring it to the Shoot/Swap and meet at Bill's
