Checked with the NFA on my status.....
Checked with the NFA on my status.....
So I sent my form 1 in the first week of march, they cashed my check in the same week to process my form 1 for a AR SBR. I decided to call this morning and check the "status" of my processing being just over the 1 month mark. Weelllll not the news I expected to hear. I was expecting a 90 days or so process, MAYBE close to 16 weeks. The lady on the phone told me that nothing is pending. I asked her to please explain what that ment and she replied that once the check is cashed and they get their money, its usually 45 days before it goes into "pending". So I asked what is pending, she replied thats when the process actually starts and its about 4 months from that point
So I was thinking if its gonna be that long of a wait and I am already almost a few grand into this build, whats another 65 bucks to buy a pistol assembly tube so i can assemble my lower and take this thing out until I get that paper work back.

That sounds about right. The last transfer I did they took nearly a month from the time the received it (just over a month from when I sent it) to even cash the check. It took another 2 months or so before it even when pending and the total transfer took something like 6.

Yeah we are seeing that now, they cant even agree on anything. If they cant come up with an agreed budget and keep this monster running who knows how long it will take to process. Looks like a pistol buffer for now is my best option....gunderwood wrote:Government efficiency at its finest...and you pay for that "service!"
Re: Checked with the NFA on my status.....
Form 1s take longer to get entered in the system due to how they're processed. They have to go to ATF in WV to be checked for legality first, then the packet is sent to Atlanta to get the check stripped out, and then it's sent back to WV to get processed.
When the check is cashed has nothing to do with how long it takes to get entered into the system because they're independent events once the packet gets delivered to Bank of America in Georgia. They do check on payment status prior to final approval (check bouncing is one of, if not the, major holdups in processing and approval), but that happens long after it gets put in the system.
Of course, applications do get lost with distressing frequency, so it's good to check on it at least occasionally.

Only the government would design a process like that!Diomed wrote:Form 1s take longer to get entered in the system due to how they're processed. Form 4 for SBR mailed on February 24. Check cashed March 3. Pending since April 1.
Form 1 for SBR mailed on February 28. Check cashed March 9. Pending since April 9.
I hope I get the stamps soon. Here's a good website that records some waiting times. http://www.nfatracker.com/default.aspx

They're picking up the pace, at least at the front end. I had a couple go in 3/29, went pending 4/12. They haven't been that fast in several years.

I sent mine in first week in February on a suppressor, and they've cashed my check, but I've heard nothing since. How do I check my status?

You can call 304-616-4500. give them a serial number, they will look it up.
takes < 10 seconds to check

Most of the time they are pleasant and helpful, but occasionally you get someone who really wishes you'd just leave them alone. Your starting to get into the right window for approval, but don't be surprised if it is still "pending," aka queuing and it hasn't been looked at yet.

Re: Checked with the NFA on my status.....
After about five months, I would absolutely be checking. The goal is to finish them in four months - if it's taking longer than that, find out why. You could be in problem status, and some of the examiners are not very good about notifying the relevant parties of problems; you could also have gotten lost. It does happen, though not as much as when they were in DC (when applications would get lost in the shredder). One or two examiners are also just slow, and motivation from above is sometimes necessary.MichelleGrace wrote:I sent mine in first week in February on a suppressor, and they've cashed my check, but I've heard nothing since.
