How will government shutdown affect you?

Post by allingeneral »

If Obama doesn't remove his head from his butt soon (TODAY!) then many hundreds of thousands of people will be affected by his ineptitude and flat-out refusal to cut spending in the 2011 budget (which should have been approved six months ago anyway!).

As a federal contractor, it appears that a government shutdown may result in my having to use my personal leave in order to get paid until the government gets back up and running. Since I have 3 days of leave on the books (its been a tough winter), I would then be required to go on Leave Without Pay, which would result in no work and no pay. NICE!

So, if anyone near the White House is reading this post today...how about telling The Anointed One that his fiscal irresponsibility over the last two years is not sustainable and that he can't continue to use federal tax money to buy votes for the Democratic Party. Accept the budget cuts that the Republican House has approved and let's move on with it!

So, how will you be affected?

I'm not sure how it will affect me at this point. As a civilian, I will get paid since my workload isn't dependent on the gubnmint.

One thing is for sure... "Elections have consequences".

Let's all do better next time 'round.

Don't know yet. They won't tell us until late Friday! I suspect that it may be as you described.

Personally, I don't see the point in arguing over $60B. If they were asking for $60B a week/month or if they were asking for a real (10-20% minimum) deficit cut then it would make a bit more sense. A couple hundred billion saved would be worth a shutdown, but not $60B IMHO. The republican leadership really messed up opening so low.

The democrats controlled both houses and the white house prior to the last election, and failed to pass a budget while they stayed busy screwing up health care, the economy (and, no they didn't cause the <might have contributed by scaring the hell out of business> recession, but their "cure" was much worse than the disease), etc. For them to now try to blame the republicans (or anybody or anything but themselves) for insisting on moderate cuts is unmitigated demagoguery. The only plausible explanation for this conduct is that they're attempting to drag us so far down the path to socialism, national poverty, the abandonment of American Exceptionalism and second-class status that we cannot recover and will therefore continue to exist in the state they desire; i.e., subject to the One-world governmental presumptions of the UN and EU. He don't want to ride in our Cadillac, so he's going to shoot the tires off of evrything but a democratic/UN/EU-sanctioned YUGO.

So who will be the first to chop the head off the sacred cow of entitlements?.

Answer?. No one will.

Paul Ryan's budget plan doesn't stand a snowball's chance on a summer D.C. street of even being considered. In fact, it's just what the left has been waiting for. Now they have all the ammo they need to spread fear and hysteria to every person on welfare, food stamps, Section 8, or unemployment.

Besides, it all Bush's fault or something.

Even if it does shut down it won;t be for long. There will be enough bitching going on that they'll all cave in to the pressure' it won;t effect me,,,I'm one of the SOB;s on long term unemployment due to little to no construction going on other than some BS short term projects. Noone gives a rats ass about the budget or the country if it's going to effect them and their little slice of America... At what the government wastes in time ,wages, and stupidity it can stand a few days off.

I'd like to see the first swipe at entitlements be a drug-testing requirement for any kind of Gubmint handout. Then maybe some kind of public service-type labor (real, though - not a joke) attached to welfare for the able-bodied.

According to FOX News, the fiscal pissing match will go on for another week. Bad news for Obama; He'll be back from another grueling marathon vacation by then.

It won't harm me. I am hoping it impacts the President directly. He says he will not sign the 1 week resolution with 10 more billion in cuts and funding the Military for the rest of the FY. I hope he needs to travel and the lack of funding grounds Air Force 1 and Marine 1, now that would be poetic justice...
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

Except it won't. It really isn't a government shutdown...it's a partial furlough. Everything essential will still go on like nothing happened.

Wot he said. I am too old (wise?) to have hitched my wagon to this bunch of jackasses. Shut the whole District of Calamity down for fiscal 2011. It would be a great thing overall. The vast majority would see both the folly of the "elite" class as well as the vulnerable position they find themselves in depending on Uncle Sugar for their daily sustenance.

I have pending business with ATF that will probably be affected.

Other than that, I won't even notice. Just like the last shutdown.

It;s just political volleyball that makes the media bored too. Neither the Dems or Repubs have the balls to shut this overspending, bloated waster of money that;s not theirs down. As mentioned short of some furloughs or whatever the hell they call it,nonone will even know the thing is gone..Sort of like when it's running only without the cost! I figure that with the way the economy has screwed the private sector it's only fair for Guvment folks to take a turn in the great disaster that is the current administrations active past time hobby. Do em all good to try living on less than they take in while their savings circle the drain trying to keep their head above water,,,,

The blame game started (again) this week!
Didn’t you hear? Now it’s the Tea Party’s fault.

Even though I am on a federal contract, I am essential personnel and get paid regardless. The pending shutdown just shows how little leadership the current administration really has.

It won't personally affect me. I do know some boys that will want their checks though, and I'm betting they get them. Isn't it funny how congress still gets their 174,000.00 paychecks? I wonder if the president will furlough his pay until this gets sorted out? I'm not going to hold my breath on that wish.

What they will do is what Warner and Kaine did in Virginia when they had to make budget cuts to balance the VA budget: They will make cuts that inflict the maximum pain and inconvenience on the taxpaying, voting public so as to (1) punish them for not stnding still for a tax increase, and (2) make the point that not to let progessive government bureaucrats have their way is folly.

I still say we need to shave 20% off the top of everything except defense, and cut defense but more slowly and carefully. Require that at least 85% of all cuts be made IN WASHINGTOM OR AT THE LEVEL JUST BELOW WASHINGTON. Quit participating in OR paying for the UN, and give them 180 days to get their nest of spies out of this country. Abolish the departments of Energy and Education. Cut Agriculture, Commerce, Transportation and Labor by 50%. And, OH YEAH, conform federal payscales and benefits to private sector levels.

This is very prominent at all levels of government. At the local level, the first cuts are always firefighters, police, etc...while they ignore the 500 paper-pushers they hired last year
