New in the Newport News area
I just graduated school and got a job in the area. My wife and I are originally from Atlanta and have been up here about two months.
We have gone to the Marksman range which is nice though a bit expensive compared to what I am used too, but will definitely go back. Neither one of us are extremely experienced with guns in general. I purchased my Beretta 92 a few months ago. We also have my wifes grandmothers S&W Model 36 which is in pretty nice shape.
We hope to go to a couple of gun shows to find something for her and possibly a second for my self. Any suggestions on what are the better gun shows and shops in the area?

I went to school at Georgia Tech and studied Electrical Engineering.
After high school I got into IT but after 8 years of that I quit my job after my wife finished her degree and went to finish up my bachelors. I finally finished my degree in December and started my job up here in January.

I can't answer your questions, but

Re: New in the Newport News area
The SGK gun show (http://www.guns-knives.com/) comes to the Hampton Convention Center every couple of months or so. For ranges there are three options on the Peninsula, The Marksman, Superior Pawn and Gun on Mercury, only 4 lanes and only open 10 to 6. They do offer some basic handgun classes there. The other option is the Lafayette gun Club in Grafton. Depending on how much you shoot it can be more or less expensive than the commercial ranges. See http://www.4lgc.org/ for more information. They have been doing a lot of work on the ranges lately getting the place spiffed up and have started more classes which may be of interest to you. It is members only, but all it requires is a sponsorship by a current member, and a little money. Cheaper than the Marksman if you shoot at least once a month, plus they have a lot more than just an indoor pistol range.
I don't buy enough guns to recommend a store but quite a few around.

Thanks for the welcomes!
I would like to shoot more often and thought about the membership at the marksman but would def like to join the Lafayette gun Club but I just need to find a member willing to sponsor me lol
Doesnt look like SGK will be here until July. I think there is one in Norfolk in a couple of weeks.

Might check that one out, the wife wants something smaller than my 92 to shoot.

And have the wife take a look at the Walther PK380. Get one and stuff it with Speer Gold dot hollow point ammo and she will be good to go.
Bill
Also if you want to see many diffrent types and calibre of handguns think about showing up for our shoot and meet in May.
