S&W M&P9 Pro report.....

Post by widefat »

M&P 9 Pro, 5" barrel -
So I dont have a vast depth of experience with pistols - I have only sent a meaningful number of rounds downrange with a Glock, Beretta 92, and a few different revolvers - but - I am really enjoying this pistol. I've had it for a couple of months and put about 600 rounds or so through it. The only malfunction was on the first box the first time I shot it, what appeared to be a weak strike. No misfeeds or stove pipes. I use 17 rnd S&W mags - which drop instantly when the buttons hit.
It groups very very tightly at 10 yrds - at least when I take my time and dont get in the way. 3 holes touching is not uncommon. The trigger is about as sensitive as I would ever desire - A couple of times I have fired prematurely while moving from center mass to a head shot. I'm getting used to it though. The only complaint I can muster is the reset is so gentle that many times I dont really feel it- will just take some getting used to I suppose. Like I said, I am not a pistol expert - but the guts look very much like S&W said "lets do it like a Glock", which IMVHO is just fine. The rear site will not stay tight, so I am going to have to put a drop of blue loctite on the set screw.
Grip - I use the largest grip; very comfortable with a nice texture.
Frame removal tool - Aside from holding the grip insert in, why do I need it? I just use a q-tip to move the sear lever when cleaning. And the darn tool is so hard to get out - I mean hard, it takes a medium size screwdriver to pry it loose. Anyone know why it's even there?

So I'm pleased - it's a keeper.

Thanks for the report! I kinda want an M&P as my first handgun for OC but haven't shot one. As far as the reset goes you can try this (https://apextactical.com/store/product- ... pid44.html) It helps make a stronger reset and is recommended by a far number of M&P owners.

I've been shooting an M&P 9 Pro for the last month after switching from a Glock. I shoot the M&P a little better, but do miss the Glock's great positive and easily felt trigger reset. Also, I'm still getting used to the M&P's slide going forward on its own after I forcefully slam a new mag in the grip during a slide-lock reload. This actually makes for a faster reload; but, I'm still just not comfortable with it yet - getting there though. All considered, I think the M&P is a better gun for me. That's a bit surprising as I'm a pretty solid Glock fan.

It arrived, I installed. BIG difference dry firing. Anxious to go try it out on the range now.
Makes me wonder why S&W didnt do this to begin with - and odd that the factory sear block just happens to have a convenient hole through the center, in just the right spot for the RAM. Kudos to APEX for taking advantage of it.

Wonder if the hole is used for something else in other models.
