Surefire 60 and 100 round mags

Post by gunderwood »

So anyone have them? At some point I would imagine that ammo weight becomes a serious issue. The 60 rounder makes some sense as it isn't uncommon to cinch two 30s together. Of course at the prices they are charging for those things perhaps they don't make any sense. Have to admit I want one just because though...particularly the 100 rounder.

Surefire 60 and 100 round mags

Post by neoexodus »

Wow, the first time I saw the 100 rounder, I thought "well if that isn't an overtly phallic reference, I don't know what is." Seems like overcompensating to me.

I don't mind the 60 so much, it looks fairly normal.

Any particular reason you want that as opposed to the Beta C-Mag 100 rounder?

There was a big discussion about them on http://m4carbine.net/. I think folks will try them, some may like them, others will try them and switch back to Redi-mags http://www.redi-mag.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=9 or magazine couplers like this CAA coupler http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Coupler- ... 20ar15.htm.

Personally, I used to carry a 20 rounder in my rifle, and kept 30s in the ammo pouches. The odds that 200 versus 210 rounds in a firefight making a real difference were minimal. I still have a preference for the twenties and use them all the time. I haven't shot 3 gun matches, a lot of people may like them for those, but they would make a rifle on the heavy side in my eyes.

Maybe these are less fragile than the C-Mags?

Count me out until they are proven reliable. Many old timers wont even carry 30 rd mags cause they trust the 20s far more.

I think one issue is that you've added another dimension to your weapon. Instead of carrying something like a line you now have a big boomerang...

I've never had a problem with the 30 round magazines being reliable, if you buy good ones - but the 20 rounders do fit much better if you drop to the ground with your rifle in a prone position. 30s are just a tad too long for me in that instance. I can only imagine carrying a 100 rounder... all that weight does have to shift the balance of it around a bit...

In my inbox just now from our friends at the Brady Bunch

Who Needs to Fire More Than 10 Rounds?

Dear Bed, (I signed up as Bed Wetter)

We don't know how many lives could have been saved that day in Tucson if only 10 bullets had been fired before the shooter tried to reload — perhaps the Federal Judge, the congressional aide, or the 9 year-old girl.

The fact is the Tucson killer was able to purchase a high capacity ammunition magazine, which allowed him to fire 32 bullets in 16 seconds.

Tell Congress: "Ban the assault clip"

Watch the video. Sign the petition. (I command you. Don't think, just do it.)
Ask 32 of your friends to do the same. (You can go play Ultimate Frisbee and join up with your friends at the protest march afterwards.)

You deserve to be protected from these weapons of war. (oooh I like the sound of that!) There is no reason anyone needs more than 10 rounds in their ammunition magazines. (You hear that Police, military, african children?)

The only people who want to shoot 32 bullets in 16 seconds are the last people who should. (Because they are bad)

Paul Helmke

I swear while reading this I heard several Gun hating Democrats pucker factors slam shut and go off the richter scale ,,, These mags are enough to put them, Brady and Bloomberg into orbit and couldn't have come at a better time.. Maybe we should send them all one as a gift? Maybe instigate a little heart attack?

Great idea Jay...I say we do it with 10 or 15 rounders and show how 32 rounds from those can be emptied faster than 16 seconds...

I agree the 60 looks way more practical. Seems like it would be great for LEO or HD carbine. Any where you wouldn't carry a gun a great distance because I would imagine it adds a lot of weight and makes slinging the rifle odd.
