VERY IMPORTANT INFO- if it's true

Post by chrgnu »

Subject: The VA and Concealed Carry

Please pass this on to all the other retired guys and gun owners...Thanks

From a Vietnam Vet and retired Police Officer:

I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out
something very interesting that I would like to pass along. While going
through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the
exam, three questions:

1. Did I feel stressed?

2. Did I feel threatened?

3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?
The nurse then informed me, that if I had answered yes to any of the
questions, I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone
into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland
Security. Looks like they are going after the vets first.
Other gun people, like retired law enforcement will probably be next. Then
when they go after the civilians, what argument will they have? Be
forewarned and be aware.
The Obama administration has gone on record as considering veterans and gun
owners potential terrorists. Whether you are a gun owner veteran or not,
you've been warned.
If you know veterans and gun owners, please pass this on to them. Be very
cautious about what you say and to whom.

This has been floating around the internet for a long time. I know people who go to the VA hospital and never heard it first hand.
Yes I carry a Bible and a Gun, your point.

I've heard this story before. The way I see it, the moral of the story is "Don't volunteer any information to those who "Just want to help"".

Oh it is somewhat true. They do ask the questions. I don't know if they do all the other stuff. It is partly about dealing with all the PTSD issues. The problem is the military has created an environment where the want you to tell them if you are having issues, then they react or over-react to the problems/ issues. Soldiers get told it is not a sign of weakness to seek help, then they turn around and don't trust them with weapons, won't allow them to attend schools and even though they aren't "Telling anybody", a kid in Kindergarden would notice something was way out of line. Servicemen who have been around for a year or two will immediately recognize what is happening and see 2+2=5 and know what the missing one is. After a little bit of this treatment and Soldiers are back to not saying anything about and letting the problems build up...
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

VA does report the mental health issue types to NICS,and very often.. .http://www.santafenewmexican.com/Local% ... -registry-

From the referenced article; "Virginia subsequently changed its laws and now reports more mental-illness cases to NICS than any other state."

I had heard this earlier and it does appear to be true. As allingeneral put it..Never volunteer any info no matter how innocently asked,,, "I don''t know nuthin" (use a Jersey accent) is the best motto go by IMHO

As my dearly-departed granddaddy used to say...

"This story is an ounce of truth lost in a gallon of bull$h!t"

There is some truth to it, and the above advice to not answer these types of questions is spot on.

Quite honestly, if you don't feel/answer yes to all three of those questions, you must be living in a vacuum. BTW, In case this is being documented, my answer to all 3 questions is a big "NO".

Just for everyones information ,the law that requires the reporting is real and Tim Kaine raised the anti even highter during his tenure in 2007....

VIRGINIA

Virginia prohibits people from acquiring or possessing firearms if they were (1) acquitted by reason of insanity and committed to the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Services for enumerated crimes; (2) involuntarily committed to a mental facility because of a mental illness; or (3) adjudicated legally incompetent, mentally incapacitated, or incapacitated (unless competency is restored) (Va. Code Ann. §§ 18. 2-308. 1: 1, 18. 2-308. 1: 3, & 18. 2-308. 1: 2).
The law requires the courts to send to the State Police certified copies of all orders (1) requiring an involuntary commitment to a mental health facility, (2) containing a finding that an individual is incapacitated (as defined by state law), or (3) restoring capacity. Copies of the orders are confidential and may be used only to determine a person's eligibility to possess, purchase, or transfer firearms (Va. Code Ann. §§ 37. 2-1014 and 37. 2-819).

In response to the Virginia Tech shooting incident, Virginia Governor Timothy Kane, on April 30 2007, issued Executive Order 50, directing the State Police to (1) request orders for both involuntary inpatient and involuntary outpatient care from district courts; (2) include the information in the state Central Criminal Records Exchange which is checked prior to firearm sales; and (3) share the information with federal authorities for inclusion in the NICS database. Anyone ordered by the court to receive involuntary inpatient or outpatient mental health care is barred from purchasing firearms until his right to own firearms is restored. (A copy of the order is attached. )

As noted earlier I/WE/ or Whoever don't know nuthin!!!
