Sleeping in late

Post by Paliden »

Second week deer season, I sleep in late, just lazy! Got out of the truck at 8 am started walking into the woods, about 50 yards in I brought this on out. We both were just taking a troll through the woods

NICE BUCK, Thats one good looking deer.

Sorry fellas, if he killed it the second week of the season the meat from that deer is gone. I'm getting short of meat now myself.

Nothing makes better chili than venison, I would kill a deer just for chili and have.

Paliden, I have killed some of my best deer in the middle of the day, you did good. I think other hunters get antsy and start moving around, then they push deer.

That is a nice buck.

See, the early bird does not always get the worm. Tell me this and I ask this because a good friend of mine, an avid bowhunter, one that has killed his share of big bucks with a bow believes it best to slip into the deer woods at daybreak, while there it is a little gray in the sky. It's been my practice to get into the woods early by means of flashlite and let the woods settle down. He as always felt we were causing more harm going in at that time...... I will have to admit, most of my big deer were killed later in the morning and most were killed after 7:30...... It makes you think and is good subject matter

I'm also a fan of getting into my stand while its still dark and have spooked many deer while doing so. If I know I'm in a good spot I usually stay until its too dark to see unless I bag one first.

Iv'e bumped way more deer by going in by flashlight than by waiting till it's just starting to turn daylight where I can see whats ahead and where I'm going.

I learned a long time ago to never be heard or seen while in the woods, it could cost you your life. He was shot at 150 yds with a 7mm Remm. Mag and hit in the shoulder. one shot took out both shoulders and both ribs and turned his heart to jello. He still had the nerve to run 75 yds and make me drag him back, thats the reason for the smile!!! I enjoy deer and groundhog hunting more than any other hunting I ever done before, they don't shoot back
