Want to SBR a pistol
Want to SBR a pistol
Does anyone know who the local approving official ("Chief Law Enforcement Official") is in Fairfax County?

They still make you fill out a special form? Maybe have a site visit? (Or was that Arlington?)

Re: Want to SBR a pistol
Another reason to do a trust. Don't have to worry about a silly LE signature. I should point out that when that portion of it became law it was 1968 and the rationale for it was that no "white" police chief would sign for a "black" man. Totally was a racist provision designed to keep the civil rights groups from acquiring weapons and fighting back.

there's a thread going around on arfcom that says another forum (one about silencers, but I don't belong, nor remember the exact name) has posted info that the ATF is recommending the requirement for the local CLEO signature be dropped and go to a notification route (like notifying the CLEO a new FFL has been granted in their jurisdiction.
Just a rumor right now.

That was posted on NFA Talk almost two months ago (the pointer to the announcement in the Federal Register and then my followup with details from SAR West); if you want the dope on NFA stuff everywhere but there and subguns is behind the curve. Yes, ATF has begun the process of eliminating the CLEO signoff. They are currently drafting the regulatory proposal, which should be posted for public comment by spring.M1A4ME wrote:there's a thread going around on arfcom that says another forum (one about silencers, but I don't belong, nor remember the exact name) has posted info that the ATF is recommending the requirement for the local CLEO signature be dropped and go to a notification route (like notifying the CLEO a new FFL has been granted in their jurisdiction.

ATF wants to get rid of it for a variety of reasons.
