ar 15 question
im looking into buying an ar 15, ive been looking at a 22 cal ar 15 and i was curious, is it possible to take the lower and put a 223 upper on it? are the lowers interchangeable? i dont quite have the money to buy a full ar 15 in 223 so i was hoping id be able to buy a 22 cal now and use it for practice and familiarize myself with the new firearm platform, and then once i have more money buy a new upper to put together for the final product, any insight would be greatly appretiated

Re: ar 15 question
There are .22lr uppers for regular .223 AR15s, but I don't know if you can go the other way. I suspect not. The dedicated .22lr AR15s I have seen don't seem to have the build quality of the centerfire versions. Hence, why they are so much cheaper. I haven't torn a dedicated .22lr AR15 down, but I suspect most of those on the market changed the operating principal. I.e. they look like AR15s, but function differently.
Someone on here may know, but you would probably get more and quicker answers on a dedicated AR15 board like http://www.ar15.com. Make sure you try the search function and if anyone gets on you for something, ignore them.
I haven't priced it out lately, but you probably could build your own for a lot less if you can rent/barrow the tools...assuming you have the know how too. Perhaps someone who has done it would help you out?

Re: ar 15 question
.22 is a .22 you cant put a .223 in a .22 gun.but you and convert a 223 to a .22.all nato rifles take the .22 convert set up.its like 50.00 but if you get a 223 and shoot .22 in it clean it real good before running 223 back in to it. .22 are dirty ammo.

Re: ar 15 question
there are inexpensive 223 ar's out there. I've seen the 22lr's sell for almost as much as the cheaper 223's.
