Myself and another VaGunOwnersForum asked to leave Walmart
On Friday Decemeber 24th around 0710 myslef and dontcallmeradio went to WalMart at 171 Burgess Road Harrisonburg to do some last minute christmas shopping after we got off of work. We were both legally open carrying a handgun. When we went through the entrance the door greeter called out to dontcallmeradio to come over to him. When we went over to speak to the door greeter he asked us if we were police officers we told him no we were not, he then asked us why we had guns then, dontcallmeradio told him because it is our second ammendment right to do so. The door greeter then told us that we could not go any farther into the store until we spoke to the manager, the door greeter then got on his radio and called for the manager to come to the front and for the cameras to watch the grocery entrance which is where we were standing. It took the manager about 10 minutes to come and speak to us then entire time the door greeter is still calling for the manager on the radio and for the cameras to watch the entrance we were at. When the Manager arrived the door greeter told him that both myself and dontcallmeradio we carrying guns, the manager asked us for law enforcement identication. When we told him that we were not law enforcement officers he told us we had to leave. We obeyed and left telling him that we would contact his corporate office for clarification on the matter, since we had both legally open carried at that Walmart numerous times before. While walking out I realized that I had forgot to get the managers name so I concealed my pistol which I have a permit to do and I went back in the store. When I was in the store I approached the door greeter and asked him for the managers name, he told me that he could not tell me his name and pointed toward the manager. As I approached the manager he turned his back to me and spoke to other employees, I awaited about a minute and then said "excuse me sir" A female employee then asked me if there was something she could help me with, I told her "I just need to know your managers name so that I can include it in my complaint to the corporate office" the manager that had told us to leave then told me his name is Kevin when I asked him for his last name but he wouldnt tell me.
I am asking all members to boycott Walmart and send their corporate office a complaint about the way their employees have violated our rights and ability to protect ourselves.
If you have any questions or comments please let me know.

Such an inappropriate and childish way to react. Also typical. Atypical for H-burg though! I have been told (in the course of being threatened with trespass for OC at UVA) by local police that they have also been told they cannot OC in plain clothes at the local ChiComMart. I have never had an issue. Ya know, I usually go the the Sam's Club and I am certain I have OC'd there many a time.

Walmart's policy as far as I remember, is that they follow the laws of the state. They should have allowed for the lawful open carry of your firearms......
HOWEVER.......
You were told by the manager to leave. Your permit allows you to carry a concealed handgun where lawful. You disregarded that and concealed your handgun and went back into the store. You therefore trespassed on Walmart's property and could have been subject to immediate arrest.

If you are going to open carry you must be prepared for the occasional incident where someone at that business will object. It's unfortunate, but it is going to happen.
How you handle these incidents will determine whether you go home, or spend the night at the gray bar hotel. Be careful out there.

Re: Myself and another VaGunOwnersForum asked to leave Walmart
The only problem here is that you should have been boycotting Walmart already. They are in cahoots with Bloomberg and his MAIG group. They video tape all firearm purchases and refuse sales in cases where the background check results are delayed past 3 days though the sales are lawful.
http://patriotwarrior.org/2008/04/21/wa ... un-owners/
There is even some speculation that Walmart contributes money to MAIG.

I have not been able to find their policy on their website
Re: Myself and another VaGunOwnersForum asked to leave Walmart
I realized that when I went back into the store however they did not state I could not return to there store I was just told to leave. While we were waiting for the manager there was several people watching what was going on and one of them was exiting the store the same time we were, I drive a highly identifiable vehicle and did not want to make it a target for theft. I realize that these reasons would not hold up in court if it came to that but it was my rationale in what I did.ProShooter wrote:tacweapon wrote:When we told him that we were not law enforcement officers he told us we had to leave.tacweapon wrote: so I concealed my pistol which I have a permit to do and I went back in the store.

Re: Myself and another VaGunOwnersForum asked to leave Walmart
I went to buy a .22LR for my son a few years back at the Lynchburg WalMart. When I asked to hold the gun, the salesmoron told me that I couldn't legally hold the weapon unless I had already bought it. After asking, "How am I going to know if I want to buy it?", he told me it wasn't his problem, because it was "against the law". I went down the road to Dick's Sporting Goods and bought it for $20 more.
I hate that store.

OK - I need a point of clarification here...ProShooter wrote:tacweapon wrote:When we told him that we were not law enforcement officers he told us we had to leave.tacweapon wrote: so I concealed my pistol which I have a permit to do and I went back in the store.

First, I do agree that concealing, then going back into the store could have lead to arrest for trespassing.
How long does the "Please leave the store" stay in effect? What if he had returned home, disarmed, then returned to the store unarmed to comply with the manager's request. Or, what if he had dropped his weapon in his vehicle and returned to the store? Certainly, he isn't banned from ever returning... So, legally..24 hours? What if he returns to the store a week from now while OC? Is he trespassing at that point as well?
Re: Myself and another VaGunOwnersForum asked to leave Walmart
I have to ask, and excuse my naivete as I'm a Northerner....but where the hell else can I shop besides walmart? Seriously!
When I have to go there I find myself in a stupefied daze, overwhelmed by the size and amount of stuff. Much prefer to be in and out, you know?
Unlike most liberals I don't have much of an ideological problem (they just exemplify the ideologically neutral economy of scale principle) with them, but I'd love smaller shops for stuff.
The lack of independent hardware stores in the Roanoke area is a killer too. You just don't get good help at lowe's, and they're 100 times better in the help department than Home Depot...remember climbing the shelves a good 15 feet up to get a garbage pail there once on a high shelf.
Haven't seen a soul open carrying around here, but its my understanding its up to the discretion of a business no?

The Code doesn't define a time period, only "after having been forbidden to do so". One could reasonably assume that the prohibition would apply so long as the person was carrying a firearm, since their carrying of the firearm is what caused their ejection.allingeneral wrote:OK - I need a point of clarification here...ProShooter wrote:tacweapon wrote:When we told him that we were not law enforcement officers he told us we had to leave.tacweapon wrote: so I concealed my pistol which I have a permit to do and I went back in the store.

Hmmmm.... I await corporates response to you. I understand this isn't their normal policy.

Re: Myself and another VaGunOwnersForum asked to leave Walmart
Used to be the store managers' pictures with name were posted on the walls near the cash registers.
Folks are getting more stupid every year. No matter what the policy or law is there are those who will either misunderstand it, fail to learn it or ignore it and do what they want anyway. All illustrated by the "you can't carry openly in here" even though they supposedly follow the state laws, "its against the law for you to touch it till you buy it", etc.
Perhaps including in your letter(s) the products you bought elsewhere and the money you spent when not allowed to shop in WalMart might help (especially if more folks do it).
I would consider a second letter just describing how you asked the greeter to direct you to the store manager and include that person's response as well as the rude actions of the manager. Neither were justified and both could be seen to hurt business.

Walmart's corporate policy is to honour the laws of the state/locality in which their stores are located.
If you were instructed to leave you encountered what is known as a "rogue" manager who needs to be reported to corporate for acting outside of designated policy.
The best thing to do in these instances is to get the names of all associates/staff involved and then leave the business immediately.
And then file a report with the corporate office.

If you don't like the answer you get, don't shop there. Simple.

I hate Walmart for all those reasons. They're anti-gun. Old man Sam Walton is surely turning over in his grave. They're killing mainstreet America. They're killing the very idea of customer service. They're putting domestic suppliers out of business with their relentless price-squeezing and than shipping those jobs to China (or some other 3rd-world cesspool) by buying from lowest-cost suppliers in that country.
But what bothers me the worst about Walmart is the Great Mystery.
And WHAT, you ask, is the Great Mystery?????
The Great Mystery is THIS:
What is it about a damned Walmart store that makes grossly overweight women congregate where two aisles intersect? So help me, it never fails! I never go there unless it's an emergency and I can't get whatever it is anywhere else; and my attempt to hurry in and hurry back out is ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS foiled by 4-5 great big sloppy lard-assed women jammed into the space where 2 aisles come together along my chosen path through the store. Can't get to whatever it is I've got to have without getting butt-rubbed by 2 or 3 of them. Makes my skin crawl just to think about it. The Health Department ought to hire drovers with cattleprods to keep them moving and not let them socialize.

As a moderator I should insist on proper decorum and point out that your post is full of PC faux paus, but the thought of getting butt rubbed by someone who looks like they've got 2 bulldogs having a fight in their drawers when they walk is indeed enough to make anyone's skin crawl...you forgot to mention they always wear them spandex britches...

Re: Myself and another VaGunOwnersForum asked to leave Walmart
The Great Mystery is not a great mystery: they congregate where the aisles meet because there is not enough room for them in the aisles themselves. The aisles can hold one big butt, but not two big butts, but the intersections can hold 3 or 4 big butts.
