Pistol Range near Williamsburg?

Post by SigmaShooter »

I went to the Marksman in NN, nice folks, but the place is pretty run-down. Plus, they wouldn't allow my cheap-o Wolf brand ammo (said it had steel on it) so it cost me $82 for 2 boxes of .40 cal and 2 admissions. (I've had hookers cheaper than that!!)
Went to Lafayette GC, much nicer, but $220 for new members to join for 1yr. OUCH.
Heard about Chicahominy WMA, but they apparently closed the pistol range for good recently. I know the Marksman allows retired military to shoot free 1 or 2X a month, but the lack of ventilation in there, -YIKES!
Any suggestions???

I know that Tidewater Police & Sportsman's Supply had an indoor pistol range at one time. I'm not sure if they still do. They are located in Newport News on Warwick Blvd. by the Daily Press office.

Well, technically Lafayette is $150/year. It is the initial costs that equal $220. $150 for the year, $50 for new member fee, and $20 for your card (which opens the gate and clubhouse/indoor range). But the first year is the only one you have to pay up front. After that, it is broken up over the year.

I think it is worth it. The indoor range is accessible 24/7. You can go shooting at 3 am if your heart desires.

I know Superior on Mercury charges $120/year for their crappy indoor range and it is only open 10 am - 6 pm. They start closing it up at 5:30. Hell I work til 5 every day. $30 bucks more for 24/7 access isn't bad at all, not to mention the outdoor ranges and shotgun range.

That is a really good deal. I wish I had 24/7 access to SEG and it costs a lot more!

I didn't realize that. Of course I've only been a member for about 6 months. It's a better bargain than I thought! :clapping:

Yeah, I shot there once last Summer and this pretty much nails it. I wanted to like it, they are nice folks, but I also like to be able to breathe when I leave the range. We'll be spending quite a lot of time in Gloucester Point next year and hope to find a place to shoot on a regular basis. Guess I'll look into Lafayette Gun Club also.
Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

I am mistaken, it's A&P Arms in Hampton (Mercury Blvd.) that I am thinking of.

You know what they say...memory is the ? thing to go!

Lafayette is raising the new member initiation fee after January 2011, So you want to get you application in before then.
The last few months they have been doing a lot of spiffing up the facility with a new paint jobs and the like.
