It should be a vehicle for a standby command and logistics structure to provide an "officer corps" in the event that a mobilization of the Militia should become necessary.

The Militia is the people's and the States' last line of defense against government. The VDF answers to the Governor and CANNOT be called into federal service. In the event that the NG is commanded (unlawfully) to engage the citizenry or any of the civil authority to establish federal dominion, it is the VDF's responsibility to secure and command the Guard's arsenals and prevent them from being used to the detriment of the state or the people.

At least, that's what it should be.
Hey, we actually agree on something! Cool! :-) And let's hope that the state Militia never does need to be called up like that. We talk about SHTF scenarios sometimes on this board. Well, that'd be about as SHTF as I can imagine, and I really don't ever want to see that happen. EVER.

I agree with that statement.

I know I brought this old thread up again, but the VDF is an interesting and real scenario to think about and is why the 2A was put in its place within the constitution.

Here is an interesting Link that I found

Agreed, but you don't ever have to worry about the militia getting called up, even if it is needed. The word has so successfully been misconstrued that any politician who does so just ended their career.

The down side to the VDF (from my perspective) is that it is essentially a support team. It is logistics and periphery.

It is also unarmed, as written, unless called to active status by the governor to repel an invasion or defend Virginia's interests in any other manner.

Also, from § 44-54.12:

"members of the Virginia State Defense Force shall not be armed with firearms during the performance of training duty or state active duty, except under circumstances and in instances authorized by the Governor."

I have been interested in the idea for some time, but I can't get past having to shave regularly and cut my hair and that the "service" is an unarmed exercise unless authorized by the Governor. Kind of pointless from a defense standpoint.

Same. My clearance means my family is provided for. If it will jeopardize my livelihood, it's not happening.

Perhaps you could add something useful to it instead of stirring s**t?

In a good mood tonight? Last time I check calling someone a disgrace isn't adding something to the conversation. If you want to win any followers you don't start with the word disgrace. It goes no where fast. So maybe a second shot is in order.(pun intended) Why do you believe his beliefs to be a disgrace?

Of course you could always read the OTHER POSTS I've made and comment on the useful information I provided, and the responses to that.

He said he was glad Dixie lost. That is a direct and specific INSULT to my heritage and to Virginia. You defending him on it is tantamount to same.

Give it a rest.

Just so I am clear - is saying I am glad the Nazis lost a direct insult to my German friends?

That's right, I Godwined this conversation. :first:

The Nazis invaded and occupied foreign countries and forced the people of those countries into compliance with their mandates at the end of the barrel of a gun.

That's more akin to saying you're glad the north won than saying the South lost.

The difference truly being that the South wished to be left alone to govern themselves and was brutally invaded, conquered, plundered and occupied whereas the Reich did the invading, conquering, plundering and occupying.

I am somewhat amazed America did not side WITH the Nazis. After all, they employed proven yankee combat (human shields, scorched earth, murder of civilians, etc) and propaganda strategies.

All it boils down to is this: Ameriklha hates competition.

Hitler essentially plagiarized Lincoln's playbook and the worshipers of yankee demagoguery were upset at having their heretofore monopoly on those techniques infringed upon.
