The NRA: Caught in the Crossfire

Here is a pretty good article that speaks to why some conservatives are not very happy with the NRA of late.

Interesting accusation (excerpt):

..."Our members, many of whom are former NRA members, believe the NRA doesn't want the problem of gun control to go away," Zelman says. "If the problem goes away, then so do their six-figure salaries."

I'd agree with that factor!

But as opposed to being upset about MORE rights, change the direction! Have the NRA offer more accredition to gun ranges, and instructors.

Have them take the money used for former political fights, and BUILD GUN RANGES!

Have them expand the "Eddie Eagle" program.

If they seriously started to do that, as opposed to beggin' for money, and selling products, I would support them.

Well, no matter what prattle Chris Cox tries to spew, the NRA is not a "single-issue" organization, not when Wayne LaPierre is going on about other things either not related or only very tenuously related to the 2A. I dunno about Chris, but Wayne's clearly a part of the "National Republican Association" aspect of the NRA, and that's not what he should be doing.

Money that comes from membership and MidwayUSA donations etc all goes into that kind of stuff. Only donations going directly to NRA-ILA NRA-PVF and NRA-PAC are used in elections and in the writing of bills. Campaign finance laws get tricky so they can't just funnel funds in from the NRA's general bank account so to speak.

But yeah, the general premise seems true, they don't want to lose their jobs.

If I could collect a bit over 1 mil a year to do...well, whatever it is Wayne LaPierre does, I'd hold onto it for as long as I could too. Hell, assuming you just gave the $25 bucks, that's a bit over 40,000 members supporting one guys total annual paycheck. Not too shabby.
