My new 1911

Post by 9MM92FS »

As my userid indicates, my other pistol is a Beretta 92FS, but here's my new RIA .45 ACP 1911.

I love the look of the classic 1911. Not bad for 99 years old

I wonder who will come out with the best 100 anniversary model next year?

Those are some nice grips for RIA (or most any stock pistol). Good job.

Time for a beavertail safety and some modern sights!

Btw, in the interests of full disclosure, the original grips on the Rock are shown here. The photo in my first post in this thread shows the Herrett grips I purchased at:
http://www.cdnninvestments.com/19dodicobogr.html

Not that I have any connection to CDNN Sports, but for this grips purchase, I'm a satisfied customer. YMMV. One thing about the 1911, there's a HUGE selection of grips available through many sources. The other interesting thing is that the 1911 seems to have a following which almost appears to be a cult. :o

Very nice! Let me know how it goes, I have a friend who wants a RIA but he is on the fence.

Come to think of it, I did catch some guy planting a large seed pod in my basement. He said not to worry and just go to sleep.

GREAT. Now people are gonna be looking for our seed pods now. Just go to the range, blast away, and give us some range reports on your new piece so you can complete the transformation and stop being a thorn in my side. :friends:

Hi I got my RIA 1911A1 2 years ago and I absolutely love it! Like you, I swapped out the plain jane hand grips for nice carabella wood (it's pretty, like yours) and it hasn't had ONE misfire or jam. And it's quite accurate so I'm a very happy camper. It's my go-to gun for night home defense on my nightstand.

Of course, If I feel like it I can walk the 10 feet to my 12 guage pump (which is also loaded and ready to go). No kids in the house...

A cult??

Let's see now, my first semi auto handgun was a Colt 1911 (made in 1917, still a beautiful gun), my second semi auto handgun was a pre 70 series Combat Commander (just about the best shooting 1911 I've every fired), my third semi-auto handgun was a Ruger Mk1, my 4th semi-auto handgun was a series 80 Colt (I always wanted a stainless steel 1911). When I bought my youngest son his first semi-auto handgun it was a Colt Series 70 with the satin nickle finish (man is he proud of that thing).

Have you ever heard a GI complain his 1911 was malfunction prone or that he had to shoot some guy half a dozen times with it to stop him? Can't say that for some other calibers in use these days.

Read the story of Sgt. Alvin York. He took out an enemy patrol sent out to find/kill him with one shot each from his 1911. Read the MOH citation for Sgt. Thomas Baker (Saipan, 1944). Wounded to severely to retreat, regroup and re arm he had his men sit him down with his back to a tree with a borrowed 1911 to await the Japanese soldiers. When they got back to the top of the hill they found him still sitting against the tree (dead by then) with 8 dead Japanese soldiers lying in the trail in front of him.

The cartridge works, the gun works - as long as the shooter does his part.
Good choice, now learn to use it and take care of it and it won't let you down.

I love the 1911 but mine have been sitting lonely in the safe since I got attached to a Baby Eagle in .45...10 in the mag and 1 chambered plus its got a sweet double action. Mostly chrome so nary a worry about rust.

Congrats...I love mine...it's the most accurate pistol I have ever owned. I kept the original sights that came on it and for me, it seems to just point perfect out of the holster and depending on the distance I don't even use the sights sometimes. I hope you like this piece as much as I like mine!

1911s are sorta like pringles potato chips... after your first, you just can't stop.
