I was trying to do some custom work with a well known company, I will not comment on the company name sorry.
I was asking to do some changes on my pistol the Kimber Ultra carry ll, the gunsmith guy sounds to me, he did not wanted to do my pistol, even do he did not refused to do it.
He ends telling me that my pistol was a piece of $#%$, you know what I mean, he says my pistol which is only 2 month old with only 300 round will not last 1,500 rounds?? is this true? He said that Kimber pistols are round count limited? Is this all crap true? Or all he just wanted is to sell my his $3,000 pistol?

Compared to custom guns, Kimbers and the like are junk. Its like calling a Ferrari dealer and asking them to work on your Lexus. Don't get me wrong. Your Kimber, just like the Lexus, is a good gun or car, but it isn't a Ferrari. I wasn't privy to the conversation, but it sounds like you made him mad.
Most of the 1911s in the $1k range use MIM and other lower cost parts. Depending on your point of view, it may or may not matter.

So why would Ferrari offer custom work for Lexus and others if Lexus and others are bad car or low quality cars compair to FerrarI car?

Kimbers are fine pistols. I have one, and I've put over 1,000 rounds of full power 10mm ammo through it with no problems. I think the smith was just trying to put you off. Find someone else to do the work you want, he obviously does not want your business.

If you want to customize a stock Kimber 1911, why not send it to the Kimber Custom Shop?. You should be very careful when it comes to modifying a match grade pistol, regardless of the maker. Otherwise, you'll end up with a frankenstein gun.

You said he didn't refuse, but didn't sound like he wanted to do it...after which he insulted your gun and more or less told you to get lost. Where is the confusion in that?Culichor wrote:So why would Ferrari offer custom work for Lexus and others if Lexus and others are bad car or low quality cars compair to FerrarI car?![]()

My the confusion is about limited round cound thats all. Everything else is clear to me.
Re: Kimber pistols Ultra Carry ll please help.
M1911 Pistols Made in 1918 were still around and in use by the Army in the '80s and they probably weren't made with the same attention to detail Kimber uses. I think you have a few years before yours "wears out". It might take some maintenance along the way, but I think yours will be around for a long time...
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

I bought a UC II about 8 years ago, and it broke on my first time out. The slide return spring assembly snapped on my 2nd or 3rd shot, and I had to send it back to the factory for replacement parts. When it came back I had no more problems. Lesson learned: just because it is pricey and well-known doesn't mean you'll never have a problem.

Kimber's use forged slides and frames (which is a good thing). The only "junk" parts are the small parts. MIM and such which aren't as strong as billot or forged. MIM isn't bad for say, but rather that it isn't as good as the alternatives. Kinda like the forged vs cast debate. A cast 1911 frame should last much longer than a Glocks and probably slightly more than a SIGs Al frame. Despite SIGs costing just as much as a cast frame 1911 ($800-$1200), they don't ragged on. YMMV.
