CC Application Returned to me...

Post by CK1 »

So I walked my application in to the Leesburg clerk's office after the Loudoun Co. Sheriff did the background check, thinking "This is a slam dunk. Should see my permit soon, can't wait!"

Then I get a letter from the court stating that my answer to Question #8 was "inconsistent with the criminal background check" and they wanted me to explain on the attached advidavit the pending criminal charges against me from the state Nevada from 2004.

Yeah, I never went to Nevada until 2008 and definitely never had any trouble there or anywhere else. So I took a trip to Loudoun Co. Sheriff and explained the situation.

Here's where it get's weird, especially for me because I'm from So Cal.

The clerk at the Sheriff's dept. calls me back on my cell yesterday and say's there's another guy with the exact same name as mine, born on the same day but 1 year different from me. She said it was a mistake on their part and she's already spoken to the Leesburg Court Clerk and to go ahead and fill out the advidavit and send it back to her attention and that the clerk is waiting for my paperwork and all is well and "Sorry for the mix-up".

How cool is the state of VA? Huh?

See in So Cal, I would have been arrested and would have had my attorney straighten out the mistaken identity issue while I was in jail. Actually, no this never would have happened because I never would have filled out a CC application because we don't do that in So Cal either.

Anyway, I guess the moral of the story is "Be prepared, you may not be as clean as you think. There could be someone out there with your exact same name doing things that you would never do."

Yup, good you caught that this way. I have had 3 to 4 people on my credit report, all different SSNs; I have had a court clerk make a mistake and enter my name in the system as someone doing time in jail; etc.

I have a better story....

Many years ago, I worked in a hotel. We got a new manager with the exact same name as me. One day, some woman called the hotel and asked for me by name, so they transferred the call to my desk. When I answered and said hello, she proceeded to ask me what time I was leaving work and then she told me what she was wearing (or not wearing) and what would be waiting for me when I got home.

Imagine her surprise when I told her that I was not, in fact, her husband. :hysterical:

Jim R., is that you?

I took your class the weekend of the last Dulles gun show.

Good class!

I consider myself pretty skilled with firearms and I still think I learned a great deal in your class.
Well worth the money!

If it's ever taken longer than you expected to get the background check done when buying a gun, now you know why.

Could be, particularly if you were buying at a show, or during a time when volume may have been higher (say, a Saturday afternoon or something when lots of people might be out at shops, shows, etc, buying bang sticks). I've had checks come back in minutes, I've had checks take hours.

Mine was delayed for two weeks because I was born overseas. I had not put my SS# in the form. So the clerk at PWC mailed it back, requesting my passport # or SS card. I sent it back, with the required info. A week later, the clerk calls me and asks me to fax a copy of my passport or SS card. I ended up faxing it to him that night, but the resend didn't stick. Either way, I got my permit four weeks after I sent it in.

At one point (according to Equifax) I owned three boats, four homes, six motor vehicles of various types (including a full boat RV) and was packing the coveted AMEX Black Card.

Thei went along with the four separate identities in the report. No wonder I hear voices.

Hmm...

Funny you should mention that.

When I bought my CZ75B @ Loudoun Guns I turned the paperwork in at noon on a Thursday and it didn't get approved until late Friday afternoon.

I was told it was most likely because I'd recently bought an AR-15 in Calif, then recently moved to VA and was trying to purchase a handgun here along with the fact the D.I.A. had just recently done a Security Clearance background check on me.

I was told they like to take a little more time to know about the people that are armed and have access to Federal Facilities. I didn't even know about my arch-nemesis in Nevada comitting crimes under our shared name.

Hey speaking of your class...

What was the name of that children's book you recommended?

Wasn't it like "Why my daddy carry's a gun?" or something like that?
