Nikon M-223?

Post by Mindflayer »

Has anyone tried one of these: http://www.nikonsportoptics.com/Product ... index.page

Still leaning toward something like the Aimpoint T1 but curious about the Nikon.

I've been looking at those too, but haven't read found any actual review from anyone that actually owns one on this board or any other that I check.

I looked at them too, but went with a Leupold 1.5-4 Mark AR. I really do like this scope.

Which one are you looking at? The 1-4X, 2-8X, or the 3-12X? I'm assuming since you're looking at the T-1 you need a CQB type sight? If you get the higher magnification scope, you can mount the T-1 offset on the scope. Best of both worlds.

Nikon scopes are good scopes for the money. They are all decently built and are a good value. Are they the "best?" No. Are they ultra-milspec rugged? No, but for the most part it doesn't matter. Good scope, good price.

IMHO, unless you are shooting a long/heavy barreled AR with 75gr+ match bullets, anything over 2-4x is way too much for an AR. Military snipers used a 10x for decades to kill enemy out to around 1000 yards. I would suggest you don't need an 8x scope on a AR carbine shooting XM193/XM855. Just my two cents.

How far can you hold minute of man unsupported/standing?

I ended up buying the Aimpoint T1 from Nova Armament. It was $633 I really didn't want to spend right now, but I've been putting off the RDS for a while. (Yes, I know I could have bought it cheaper online, but best to practice what I preach and buy local. The accidental price in the newsletter would have been awesome, though. ;) )

Try it out and give us a report. I think the T1 is an awesome sight for its intended purpose. On a tactical, lightweight carbine I think it is tops.

I just bought the 2-8X for my 6.8 AR. It is nice! I got the mildot reticle. I'm taking her to the range either tonight or tomorrow night. I have a match on Saturday (10 to 600 yards), and my old scope and mount crapped out on me last week (and I broke the BCG, but that's another story). I had no problem looking from up close and personal to out there with the scope, and there's 4" of eye relief. Nikon also offers a web app that gives you the dope on your cartridge out to whatever range and I'll be trying that, too.

Well, the scope worked great. I used my rig from 100 to 500 yards, no problems. Glass is clear, image was sharp, and I was making head shots on steel silhouettes from 200 to 500 yards. At 8x, the 500 yard targets were pretty easy.
