Select-Fire, Glen Burnie MD

Post by Bilgeman »

Should you find yourself up in the Bawlmer,Merlin metro area with a handgun or carbine...
LEAVE IMMEDIATELY BY THE MOST DIRECT ROUTE!!!... the Select-Fire gun store and range in Glen Burnie down Merlin Route 2 is a nice 25-yard indoor facility.

As one would expect from our beloved hoplophobic socialist neighbors to the north,( no...not Canada), the management is serious about their safety rules and the laws, so your magazines must be empty and out of the piece, show ID, read the rules, sign the waiver.

Once upon a time I was pretty close buddies with that rarest of critters, a holder of a Baltimore City Concealed Handgun Carry Permit, (yes, there really IS such a thing!), and we'd go bust caps at this facility.

The other thing Select-Fire was good for was when I sailed on a British-flag cableship that was homeported, quite literally, under the guns of Fort McHenry...go figure... and I took up a patriotic hobby of turning my Limey shipmates into hopeless gun-nuts. A few rounds from my "Love Machine" downrange, and they' were quite happy to rent Select-Fire's Class III goodies for some SERIOUS "happy-happy, joy-joy".
Honestly, the looks on those Geordies', Jocks' and Scousers' pale mugs when they cut loose that first mag was so danged cute! I'd always take their riddled targets back to the ship and tape 'em up on the door to the shooter's cabin. Reckon that some of 'em might still be posted aboard.

Of course, once the lads had to go home to Blighty, there was no more of THAT kind of fun...and yes, I can be THAT kind of bastid. That was the patriotic part of the hobby:

(Moor your bloody ship somewhere ELSE, you Limey hooligans!)

I very occasionally visit my parents in Glen Burnie, and when I saw this I thought, "cool, something to do with them when I'm there." But after reading the rules at http://www.selectfire.com/ I changed my mind.

According to MD law, I can carry my firearm in my car of I'm on my way to/from the range. But I cannot carry the firearm if I'm on my way to my parents' house first. But it's the "in-house" rules that told me all I need to know. No cell phones, on or off. 4 seconds between shots. NO HEAD SHOTS INTO THE SILHOUETTE TARGETS. Why would I want to waste my $$$ with people who think a head shot on a paper target is dangerous? What a bunch of yahoos.

Guess I'll keep inviting the parents down to VA instead of visiting up there.

I shot there once when i was stationed @ APG.Yes the rules are crazy but I went with some guys from post. the reason for not making headshots on the target is to avoid damage to the target frame or ricochette from the ceiling.

I've spent time sitting in the parking lot across the street from there, never been in even when I was living up there.

Yeah that sucks, I mean four seconds!?!? I would have time to reload and take a swig of water in that time. How does that work for select fire?

Dominion Shooting Range is here in Richmond and they rent and sell Class 3. Here are there rules http://www.dominionshootingrange.com/liability.html I will have a nice range review on them coming up here in a little so stay tuned.

Now that's rather odd for a range that rents class III. That 4 seconds between shots rule must be new, because I distinctly remember a few esteemed "Glen Burnouts" in the lane next to me and one of my Limey shipmates with a full-auto Steyr AUG...and I'm pretty sure that the Steyr was spittin' out lead like a woodpecker on meth.

If you think about it, the no cell phone rule is a pretty common-sense regulation, not only because some 'tard inevitably will be trying to hold a conversation on one...yes, at a hot pistol range, but also because you never know what kind of dipstick bored Bawlmer Scum reporter or mouth-breathing "citizen activist" that might want to take pictures of you shooting your eeeeevil guns for his big "gun control loophole" story that's gonna blow the lid off the town! .
And...if I was casing a joint for a burglary, a cell-phone camera would be just the ticket for scoping the security systems and a little informal "inventory".

Well, it make sense until they say "on or off" If it is off it isn't a problem and there is no reason I should be able to use it if I'm not shooting.
