Mac, Windows, Linux, other?
Curious as to what operating systems the participants in this forum use.

I was all Linux-y for a few years, but the thrill is gone. I work more with Winders now, so I'll go with that for a while.

Have you tried Ubuntu? IMHO, it is the easiest and best distro for desktop use. However, the last couple of releases they have had growing pains, but those seem to be solved about 1 month after initial release. Generally, it has been weird HW/SW interactions causing things to not work well. They fix it quick, but I recommend you wait 1 month before upgrading.OakRidgeStars wrote:I was all Linux-y for a few years, but the thrill is gone. I use Macs for all of my life stuff - business, photography, and so on. Use Windows for gaming. Linux for everything server-side.

Sadly - I'm too lazy for anything other than winders. But then, that's why I hire minions.

I dual booted XP and Ubuntu for about 2 years. I switched full time to Vista and Win 7 on another computer. Anyone try video editing on Ubuntu? I would consider switching back there is a good, free, program, for editing.

All of the above including *big* UNIX for Other (Sun and HP). For work, I am using a lot of various versions of Windows and Linux flavors. For my own home use, I am using Windows 7, Mac SnowLeopard, Linux Mint, and Ubuntu Netbook.

I didn't count big iron that we deal with at work.
I have done some video editing on desktop linux - about a year or two ago, on Ubuntu. Not a huge fan. Prefer using my Macs.

What, no one is using CPM?
Anyone besides me remember Osbornes and Kaypros?

As a matter of fact, I have and do on a fairly regular basis now. The program I use is Kdenlive, relatively easy to figure out even for someone who had never done any video editing before (that would be me). The distribution was (up until recently) Ubuntu 9.10, now 10.04 LTS.Jakeiscrazy wrote:I dual booted XP and Ubuntu for about 2 years. I switched full time to Vista and Win 7 on another computer. What I like about Kdenlive, besides its GUI drag 'n' drop interface, is the fact that it outputs video in (among many other formats) Ogg Theora. This is really nice because Firefox has natively--i. e. no plugins required--supported HTML5 and Ogg Theora since version 3.5, and Opera has for a while, too. This is the same format used by Wikipedia for their video clips.

OpenBSD firewalls are da bomb. Their "spamd" anti-spam gateway is just prime quality.jrswanson1 wrote:Dual booting Mandriva and XP. Running an OpenBSD firewall.
