rules for grenade launcher
can anyone buy these? do you just have to get a stamp for it? i seen they make different sizes.. any particular size better then the other?

I think you can buy them, without a tax stamp. But you have to shoot either smoke or tear gas rounds. Or if you pay the tax stamp you can get buckshot rounds. It works out to like $300 a shot of something.

Depend upon what size you want 37 or 40mm. The 40's...M79's and M203 are considered Destructive Devices (Title II) and require the ATF approval and the $200 stamp. The 37mm are not Title II weapons and anybody can purchase.

That is because the 37s are flare launchers, while the 40s are grenade launchers. Depends on what kind of grenade launcher you want. You can get them for a Garand, etc. for whatever the seller wants for it. They come free with a Yugo SKS.
You can get signalling devices that look like grenade launchers. They're typically 37mm and smoothbore. They're also not firearms so you can buy them direct from the manufacturer.
Then you have "real" grenade launchers, like the M79, M203, HK69, Mk 19, etc. They're firearms. You have two options if you want one. You can buy a receiver, less barrel, and have it transferred to you as a firearm, and you can then file a Form 1 to make it into a live GL, buying the barrel once the application is approved. You can also do that to 37mm signalling devices. Or, you can buy it as a live destructive device, which means either finding a DD dealer (not many in VA who'll deal with the public) or a regular NFA dealer who doesn't mind having to pay a tax to get it transferred to him. Most people go with option one.
